Blood worms instead of pellets?

I have a male betta in a 2.5 gallon tank.

When I got him from the LFS, I got the standard betta pellets.

He would sometimes eat them, only to spit them right out.

I tried blood worms and he loves them. Can I keep him on a blood worm only diet?

Thanks!

I feed mine a mix of both, as the pellets are a more well-rounded diet for the bettas.

I do the same as Amanda. Pellets in the morning, Frozen Blood Worms (thawed) at night.
If he's a baby, the standard pellets might be too big for him.

Thanks for the quick replies! I only got him a few weeks ago, so he very well may be a "baby." I think his fins only recently got some real strength in them as he now swims across the tank with some speed, as he couldn't do this for a while coming from a tiny bowl in the store. I'll keep occasionally trying with the pellets.

I also feed both pellets and bloodworms. However, I alternate days, since I feed my bettas only one time per day. If for some reason I feed two times, I alternate feeds.

My first betta, Temeraire, wouldn't touch pellets for the longest time and would only eat bloodworms. But then I started offering tetramin mini-pellets, and he ate those... I discovered he would not eat the brown ones, though.

They really go for the bloodworms, though, and it helps balance out the diet I've yet to know a betta who refused bloodworms.

I feed mine (thawed) frozen bloodworms, frozen tubifex worms, and betta crisps on different days.
They only grudgingly eat their crisps. lol

Try Atisons Betta pro pellets (if you can find them) they are smaller than any other pellets on the market and by far the best....Bloodworms are not a balanced diet.....

I feed mine a mixture of both dried blood worms and pellets.
I found that another thing that mine like to eat is freshly swatted mosquitos. You should try him on it. The inner hunter in them love it!

Apparantly they love mosquito larvae as well. We're just coming into mossie season, so I'm gonna breed a few for mine. Unfortunately I can't get my guy to touch pellets, so he's been on bloodworms for a couple of months now. We have a really poor variety of foods available around here, so I'm gonna have to try online. Wonder if I can get those Atisons Betta pro....

Along with frozen foods, I feed my boy Omega One Betta pellets, and he loves them. They also have great ingredients.
