I'm sitting here watching my betta-boy meticulously build a bubble nest. He's so cute, picks up a bubble, puts it...here. Then another bubble, puts it...there. It's all very important this bubble placement you know. So anyway, the poor little guy is due for a water change which means I'll destroy his nest. He always does this - builds his bubble nest only a day or two before his pwc is due, and then I feel so bad, he puts so much time and effort into it.

So, can I ask all you betta keepers out there - how often do you do your pwc's? Does anyone else feel they're constantly destroying bubble nests? I feel like such a mean mum

hes a happy boy!! and depending on the sizes of my tanks, they get weekly or every other week changes...you would know whats best for your boy...my boys seem to get mad but build the second the last bucket goes back in to refill LOL

Thanks Shawnie. He's at it again as I type . I usually do a weekly change, but was thinking of making it fortnightly and wanted to check if that would be ok. He gets all pouty when I ruin his nest, and it takes a few days before he's ready to commit to a new one, by which time the week is almost up again. I might try fortnightly for a while and see how it goes.

I do water changes twice a week. They always rebuild and it gives them something to do. LOL

I also wonder how bettas would feel when we un-intentionaly destroy their bubble nests. But I guess it's for their own good and to keep their lil' home clean. I use to have a few bettas, some would act the same way yours' does, but some would feel so happy in their clean tank and start building their nest all over again! haha

My show males get daily water changes.....They have a new nest every morning....He'll be fine with you changing the water...There are lots more bubbles where those came from lol

i cange his water every5-7days and i use a straw frame for him to build his nest in. he tends to get it in/near the straws and it means i can leave it a bit longer without totally destroying it. I am sure he gves me dirty looks when i mess it up!
