Need advice about filtering betta tank

I just added a female betta to a 10 gallon with 6 rasboras. Before I decided to add the betta I installed a Penguin 100 filter with the bio wheel. Went with this type of filter because of price and effectiveness. At the time I didn't realize it filtered 100 gallons per hour. I am worried this may create too much current in a 10 gallon for my betta. Anyone have any advice?

This thread has a couple of suggestions.
How To: Slow Down Current From A Filter

If you use the search feature, you'll find several threads about this topic.

Some of their filters come with a piece for the intake that looks like an extension and it lets you adjust the intake flow - did this one come with that piece?

It did but it can only be used in taller tanks with the extension tubing.

This is what I used on my Penguin:

I stapled a piece of really wide tape to a piece of filter media (blue floss type) and taped in front of the output area and let it hang down and it did a fine job.

Ah ya, I'd forgotten about that. The buffer in front of the outflow would be an easier solution than cutting the extension down.

Yup I think that's your best solution. . With a betta in a community tank keep a close eye out for her. Sometimes it works but more often it doesn't, just depends on the betta's temperament. Other fish can pick on her and her fins, she could pick on other fish, she could be stressed from the other fish too. I would just watch her very close to see if it works or not.
