I had an interesting bonding time with Clayton the other day... i was doing homework, and as usual, i start daydreaming and watched clayton. He was staring at me, not moving. So i was like... ok awkward? are you ok buddy? i put my finger up to the glass and as usual he followed it. Well, i left the room, and he was normal again, swimming around moving around some pebbles. I come back into the room, and he stops what he's doing and stares at me again...
By this point i was confused... Am i doing something funny? why is he doing this? so i start watching him closely. I put my face up to the glass, and sure enough, he flared and bumped the glass, as if trying to attack me.
So i decided to hand feed him. I usually grab a flake and hold it aobve the water and he jumps for it. So he grabbed it and ate it. Then, for some reason, i put my finger in the tank. I forgot he was trying to kill me a couple minutes ago, and he bit me! it scared me too bsecause i wasnt expecting it! hahaha i used to think he loved me... but in reality he wants to eat me lol
Cute story but I think he was just waiting for you to feed him. I have about 30 male Betta's in my store. When I walk in and the see me they all come to the front of there containers because they know they are going to get fed. So cute. Although even the fish in the tanks do too.
hahahaha awww he's really cute! red bettas are so striking! I know what you mean about betta attitude - it's the best! lol I just keep imagining you sticking your finger in there...
LOL , ok I have a funny story. Well me and my sister were doing a water change on her bettas tank with a peice of airline tubing. Well she was holding onto the tubing when my little betta jumped up and stuck to her finger for about 2 seconds. It scared my sister to death! It was so funny

They really will try to eat just about anything they think is there for the eating. Marty tried to eat a qtip and dragged it completely out of my hand. And if you put pea chunks on your fingertip and let them float off they soon begin to see the fingertip as the object of the food. So nipping becomes a habit but it rarely is fatal. They are just bottomless pits until they get older.

There used to be a member here who had a plastic pair of tweezers that she used and it worked pretty well to keep her fingers from being nipped and yet the fish got fed piece by piece. They can be little terrors but they love the attention of being hand fed.
