Rofl. Bettas from Petsmart are always so gender confused. I bought a female that turned out to be a plakat male.

He's a veil tail male, and a very pretty one. I understand the name change to Lola, which would have been a great name for a female that seems like a male. But he's a male with a Photoshopped white spot where the ovipositor would be.

Pam,

I would never have come up with that one but you may be right lol....Actually, it doesn't even look like the same fish...The fins are way longer and thinner (an obvious male) in the ones with the egg tube....I love the way you so calmly delivered this photoshop info lol

Gotta love you Pam! I sure do miss you!

1 more thing...All you have to do is open the photo in another program to see that it has been photoshopped....The egg tube is square when enlarged lol....

Now I'm just wondering if this was a joke because I always say the pretty girls are males lol

My apologies for closing your thread, I acted too quickly.
I hope you're able to figure out if your betta is a Frankie or Franky.

Gonna have to (sort of) disagree with you on both counts here:
The first set of photos are of a fish from a front perspective while the fish is flaring. The second are a more natural set from the side and from below. This would very easily explain why the first set look like a different fish. The fins are rounded because it's flaring, and we can't see the trailing ends of the fins because of the POV.

I opened the image in both GIMP and the typical Windows photo viewer, and while the egg tube did appear kind of square, this is likely attributed to the fact that I was blowing up a tiny part of a low-res image.

I am not saying that they are the same fish, nor am I saying that the image wasn't altered. That egg tube sure does seem a bit bright, but then, flash photography sometimes does some weird things. Rather, I am saying that neither assumption is obvious by any stretch of the imagination.

I certainly don't want to stir up trouble..I was only agreeing with Pam that the photo is questionable..To be honest with you it doesn't really matter to me if it is a male or female..It is a pretty little pet whatever the gender is...

Here, I just took this photo today...This may show in detail what an egg tube looks like..Egg tubes hang down generally they are not just a white dot..

Hope this helps..You could always name the little guy/gal "Tootsie"

everyone has apologized and we hope you decide to stick around...I think the matter has been resolved on all sides and either way, your fish is a beauty and I hope you enjoy the hobby!

Shawnie,
Thanks for the info but when I click on the link I get "you do not have permission to access this page". It seems to be located in the quarantine section

The rant has been moved from the public eye because it was something that should have been dealt with privately, rather than in public.
That's why the link doesn't work. Sorry about the confusion.

Glad you've decided to come back.
