So a while back i posted a response to this person on youtube who put his bettas in bowls. I just said they thrived in heated/filtered conditions. Here i am being bombarded with nasty comments on "ooh who cares about fish, forget the whole gallon thing" I just said it nicely, add like 4 cusswords in there.

Its just upsetting that youre trying to teach someone something and being nice about it and they attack you for giving your opinion. Its because of people like these that pets are dying becase theyre neglected.to them, theyre just "dogs" or "cats", theyre just plain things that breathe and dont have feelings. I am not going to reply to this person. I dont need to prove to him that im right. I will not loose my ground because some poor little looser disagrees with me.

You did the right thing Tony. You don't have to stoop to their level. You gave them the info they needed to have. All we can do is inform people it does not mean they will use the information given to them. No matter what you do some people will never listen that's why there are still dog fights, chicken fights, and as far as that goes fish fights with bettas. Hang in there and just keep on sharing what you have learned with people less fortunate than you...that is all you can do.

I know I agree. I was going to go and tell him what I think of him but I will not stoop to his level. He's just an unintelligant person, don't let him ruin it for all of us.

You did the right thing by trying to educate this person and not responding to their attack.

I didnt read the comment but you are correct I really don't think anymore comments would do any good. It would probably only end with more nasty comments as you said and you would just feel bad because you could not fix it. You have done the right thing all the way around IMO.

You know your right there. I am not ashamed to put my face with what I have to say but I bet they would not put their face up with those comments. Tony YOU ROCK!!! Glad you feel better....ranting/venting always makes me feel better!

Tony, you're doing the right thing. Out of 20 people we talk to, maybe 1 or 2 will take our advice for their fish. However, that means more fish that will live happy lives. Those fish are the ones we're helping

Tony, some people's attitudes are unbelievable.

I was in Petco the other day ... and overheard an older teenage kid tell his girlfriend about how when he and his buddies were younger, they used to buy betta's specifically to put them together so they would fight and kill each other. Apparently, it was an attempt to impress her. We made brief eye contact ... and I kinda shook my head in disgust and he went another direction.

good one, ive heard people say nasty things like that too. One time it was from an employee and i had to talk the customers out of getting an oscar for their 36 gallon

The pet store had an oscar in a what I think was a ten gallon tank! It hopefully got sold to someone with 50

it is often just a lack of knowledge that lets people down when they keep fish and it doesnt work out. When they are informed but don't want to take it in that is their loss. I agree i feel sorry for the fish concerned but you tried your best. Thanks to all the help on here my knowledge has grown and i hope to help people out the way that i have been helped. With one happy cycled tank i am sorting out a betta tank, my local LFS told me to get a TINY tank to keep him in... thanks to advise from lucy and many others i went and bought him a 28 litre tank all to himself :-) pick him up saturday. Just letting you know that this is one person that has been helped greatly by all you guys and i am very grateful (as are my fish) chin up tony mate

I agree with everyone here Tony. You did the right thing by saying something and then you did the right thing by not engaging. Had you fought back, you would have looked less credible. Now he still looks foolish no matter what. He probably got defensive because he knowns your right and that was his way of saving face. Maybe he's had time to think about it and he's actually buying a new tank as we speak? We can hope, right?

I think some people just take it the wrong way.....like they are being picked on or being told what to do, so they get defensive. We have to realize that we all look at things differently. All we can do is give advice and that person chooses to eather listen or not. In this case that person was a jerk and not very bright, so to me it depends on the persons attitude in the first place. You did a good thing that's all that matters here. Thanks for caring about fish and animals.
