Hello. I would suggest you leave the lid on.. A while ago i used to have my 2.5 without a lid and one day while feeding he decided to take the big leap. I put him back in, and now, all my betta tanks have lids on them. They may look like they cant jump, but they do! too risky

I keep mine at 77-78, because bettas are fine in that range and all his tankmates prefer that temp. Once you start hitting the 80s I worry about low oxygen levels.

Bettas don't jump. Make sure you have a heater for the winter though because you won't have a light to heat up your tank.

I'm sorry, I have to disagree with this. My bettas jump for food.
If you read through the forum you'll find plenty of posts about people whose bettas were injured or were lost because they jumped.

Many fish will jump. IMO, every tank should have a hood.

The OP included a link the heater he's using.

Agree with Lucy..... hoods keep fish from jumping and curb evaporation

They are also good for stopping things from accidentily getting in the tank.

Well, no need to say this after so many replies... but, here it goes, keep the lid on because I've had horrible scares where my betta has suddenly appeared inside my desk drawer or on top of a table. (I had to get a new tank with a lid)

Otherwise, I'd recommend 77-78

mabey you can build a clear or fine screen lid so to not make the tank look bad......idk, just thinking outloud

actually thats not a bad idea. I am doing that on my 32 gallon. Just go to a glass shop and have the shape of the lid so that it fits the top of your tank...

i have thought about doin that for one of my tanks but the only thing that keeps me from doin it is the large amount of minerals in my local water which would produce alot of deposits on the screen, wouldnt look very good for me but mabey some others could benifit from it...

Hello. I highly suggest that you keep a lid on your betta tank. They will most certainly jump. I've lost two in the past from jumping out.
Ken

Neupane I've moved your thread to the Betta section of the forum. It may help you to get more responses from experienced Betta owners and to help others with Bettas as well. Thanks!

neupane00, I hope you don't mind, I closed the poll.
I see you've decided on keeping the cover. Good deal.
