Well, after much ado... and me being a complete nervous wreck over this breeding.. ( as Karen had to listen to my despair and help me out.. )
Drake and Rosie have spawned and we have eggs in the bubblenest!
Rosie is now back in her tank and Drake is doing his daddy thing keeping any eye on things. He was so OCD over the bubblenest and totally ignored Rosie eating so many eggs today that I thought it would never work.
BUT.. after giving up, I noticed that Drake was chasing Rosie away from the nest and I took the magnifying glass and lo and behold there are eggs in there!
Now.. praying that they come to fruitation!
Here is a video clip of the 'embrace'. Have to say that Drake was a complete sweetheart and left no marks or torn fins on Rosie at all.

There's my beautiful children! I have been out all day Kate (had a shipment of 36 fish) and last I heard from you things weren't going well....That video is awesome and it looks like a success! Congratulations! This is a spawn I am going to want something out of for sure!
How exciting Kate!!. Seeing that is something I'll probably never get to see in person. Your super lucky to get to watch these two beauties make more beautiful children..Keep us posted and Congrads!!!

Thank you everyone for the congrats and well wishes for a successful spawning. I have been out most the day so hadnt a chance to get back here. Drake is doing great... he is busy watching over the bubblenest. Rosie is back in her tank where she is quite happy to be able to eat at regular meal times.. ooo she is such a little piggie haha...
So still keeping my fingers crossed that all will go well, Im very excited about this and looking forward to the next stage.
MM, yes.. you do get the pick of the liter on this one.. gramma!

good morning Shawnie. I have been in continual contact with Karen for advice and help with them. It was so hard to even find those tiny eggs, never mind trying to find eyes and tails lol... I have to remember, that most photos we see of the eggs and tails are so magnifed that they actually look a whole lot larger than they really are considering the size of the eggs that the females drop.
Drakes bubble nest is getting smaller and smaller every day. I believe there were some eyes and tails.. but at this point its very hard to tell anything. This evening will make it three days since I first saw eggs. If there are no free falling or swimmers by this evening, Im pulling poor Drake out of there who is still so diligently staring up at the nests. It will be day 5 (at 7pm) that he has been in there w/ no food or rest.
Im not sure what is going on at this point... whether we have viable eggs/hatches or not but will make the decision to pull him out this evening and if there are any eggs that survived, we will know in a day or two.
If there is nothing, I will let Drake recoup.. rest up and get well fed, and will try it again in three weeks. Thats all I can do at this point.. Its now a wait and see what happens.

I hear you ...I had to keep taking pics and look thru my pc to see anything!!!!! LOL
Im hoping for good results for you and your clan!!!! its so hard checking them over and over and trying to see something .... my naki had a snack with all his on day 3 then went and hung out over the other side of the tank......but bella roonie is sooooo much better! goodluck my friend!!!!

So Bella Roonie ended up dropping her eggs for you and no longer the fear of her being egg bound? that is great news...
My Rosie has had a taste for eggs while in her own tank after dropping eggs, and continued that in the breeder tank.. my goodness one day I was so frustrated watching her go one by one eating those eggs, while Drake had no idea what was going on below him. jessh.. she is a lil bratt! lol..

NO on the betta breeding LOL ...I dont have room ...my fry tank is overtaken with JD fry, and now angel fry that my bf decided to move yesterday in there with them...I sometimes wish I didnt wish for him to get into the hobby more with me!! while at work last nite, he scooped up some angel free swimmers and added with my jd fry men!!
mr bala sooooooooo needs a ride to your house....especially if the jd's decide to spawn again...I wish I could get there sooner than later for sure....finances and time are crazy right now...payton goes for tubes in her ears monday and im freaking on that also...but I love mr bala so much and really cant wait for him to have a better home!! if I thought he would survive shipping, id pay for him overnight to be there but I think it would be too much for him..hes 6 inches or so and I wouldnt dare put him in a bag even for overnight....but I do have to figure something very soon!!! sorry for the hijack
