Mango getting old?

My little shamu-wannabe Mango has been getting a little slow lately. He's not on the move like he usually is and his color seems to be fading very slowly as the weeks go by. He still does his little routine every once and a while, but his spine seems to be a little out of whack. He is also rather large, more so than my newcomers Kairi and Quint, who are both considerably smaller than he is. He hasn't even been with me for a year. Could he have been at the pet store longer than normal or is something wrong? Its not the water, and he does eat well. Could it be that he's missing half of his tail?

give it some time, then see what happens
mi last one started to slow down and came up for air less and less and stay in the bottom and layed on its side and died.

thats also another thing, he rests on the bottom more often than he spends time on his leaf that allows easy access to air.

My Valient just laid on the bottom of the tank all the time the weeks prior to his death.
I had him for a year.
The bettas in the store are generally already a year old, and with the betta life expectancy being 3 yrs., it always seems like they're not with us long.
I hope Mango perks up for you though.

Hi TFA, I'm sorry Mango isn't feeling well.
I agree with Amanda, he may be getting older and if he was a cup baby for a very long time, you know his living conditions weren't the best. That can effect the lifespan of our fin babies.
Clean water, a couple of drops of garlic juice, stress coat and vita-chem are the best you can do for him right now.
Has anything changed...deco, the amount of time spent with him etc?
Why is he missing 1/2 of his tail?

Good luck, I hope he perks up for you.

He was in a bowl when he was at the store but his water was routinely changed every five days. No decorations have changed and I just got back from a vacation, but I told the caretaker he could interact with mango if the desire should arise. I showed him his tricks and I'm sure he tried it out with mango. But I usually play with mango chase-the-finger and we do the routine every once and a while. Otherwise, nothing has changed. The filter was a problem for the first few days until I got a screen, so his tail developed fin rot and I got him fixed up. But his tail never grew back correctly, so that is why he is missing a good chunk of his tail.
