New betta...

As some of you know, I won the fish picture of the month contest a couple of months back. I used the gift certificate to buy a 5 gallon capacity seamless acrylic "critter keeper" which just happens to be perfect for a betta tank!

I have been wanting a halfmoon betta for a long time, so I was really excited when we went to the LFS that carries them yesterday! I was kind of disappointed that they only had 2 in stock, though, and neither one was a color that I really liked. The lady saw me looking at them and said something like "We have those to halfmoons and we also have some really special ones in today - look at those super deltas! Those ones are just babies right now and their tails will get HUGE when they grow up! If you like the halfmoons you'll LOVE these!"

So, I ended up bringing home a super delta and not a halfmoon... I wasn't really sure what a super delta was but the lady made it sound like they had better/more finnage than halfmoons so I got one.

When I got home I googled it, and I was kinda disappointed when I read that a super delta "is one step above a delta and one step below a halfmoon".

But I still love my new cutie pie, so here he is!

I also think he might develop into a halfmoon because he has an AWESOME spread! That one blurry picture of him flaring shows him not quite all the way spread out. I haven't been able to get a good full flare pic yet.

He's adorable! What kind of heater/filter are you using for the critter keeper?

@ Lucy: I'm using a sponge filter and some live plants. I wasn't able to get a heater when I bought him but I'm going to get one ASAP. I debated between keeping him in the filtered unheated critter keeper, or putting him in a breeder net in the filtered + heated 29g. I decided that probably having his own tank would be less stressfull. He seems OK with it so far, swimming around and even flaring at his reflection in the acrylic.

I just picked up a couple of heaters, one for him and one for a rescue betta that I got from some people who were moving.
