Betta sitting on tank bottom

Do any of your bettas sit on the very bottom of the tank for extended periods of time. I've seen one of my bettas do this a couple of times and was just wondering if this was normal behavior?

Well, as you don't know about the nitrogen cycle, it could be a number of issues.
Read up on http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm.

It could be ammonia poisioning, which causes fish to become lethargic and hang around the bottom of the tank.

I hope they get better soon.

My Bettas lounge around quite a bit ..some more than others. Sometimes on the plant leaves or behind the heater and sometime closer to or at the bottom. As long as he is not staying there for extened periods of time, not eating or listing to one side or the other he is probebly just lounging around. Just keep an eye on his behavior and you will be able to determine if it is a problem or just normal behavior.

I see you have a divided tank. Any chance he's in the compartment that gets all the current from the filter?

Actually, the two rooms that are occupied at the moment both have filters in them. The female swims around just fine all the time. He is actually a lot more active today. I wonder if he was maybe just being lazy.

If all your conditions are right, you may just be catching him sleeping. betta will sleep sometimes, and if you can't recognize it, it can be distressing.

Awww...I think I accidently woke mine up then I feel bad now...that would explain the sluggishness afterwards though.

Sometimes my betta will do exactly what Phinny said and "lounge around". I think it's normal as long as they aren't acting strange in any other ways as has already been said.

I know that when i had bettas, i would give them a tall plant to rest on and a hiding thing but a couple still preferred to rest on the gravel most of the time, i noticed this mostly in the evening.

All betta are different- some of my past betta would rest on top of plants, but Sir Elton rests inside the caves of his fake log. It is all different for different betta- just oike ehtir personalities.

I've only seen him do it a couple of time. Other times he is pretty active and acts normal. It seems to me he is just resting or sleeping.
