| Where can I find clay pots? I have a 20 gallon divided tank for my bettas. So far I have only been able to find one type of small clay pot at a craft store, which just looks like a regular plant pot. Where can I fond some that are more ornamental and not so plain looking? |

| Clay pots are pretty much clay pots WalMart, Lowes, Home Depot all have clay pots

| also, if you have a Michael's craft store in your area, they have the cutest littlest clay pots I've ever seen. Would look cute in your 20gallon.
but they are just .... clay pots.... tiny clay pots. |

| yea i was able to pick up a tiny clay pot at a craft store near me. However, I have searched all over and cannot find the ones that look like vases and have more than one opening. |

| Michael's has clay pots with side and bottom holes and so does Lowe's; but I've never seen ones that are vase-shaped. |

| A lot of the ornamental pots that you find have a glaze on them that can be harmful to your fish. I wouldn't use anything other than normal clay pots in a fish tank I got mine at Home Depot... |

| I agree with MissMTS's warning. I almost killed my betta when I placed a very cute non-aquarium decoration in his tank. |

| I agree be careful of decorated pots that come from places other than pet stores. Glazes and paints can leach out into the water and harm or kill fish. |

| I just picked up some nice plain clay pots at Michael's craft store today. One is a bit taller than the standard pots, looks kinda cool. |

| The only pots we've used are the basic pots that we know to be aquarium safe. Aquarium sealant (or the much cheaper equivalent at Lowe's) can be used to attach things like big flat glass marbles or other decorative pieces that are safe for aquarium use and make them more ornamental |

| Along with CBC idea they can be covered with silicone and rolled in sand or small pea gravel to give them a different look

| I found my terracotta urn, large snail, columns, (all terracotta) all at a Feed and Seed store. Not a place that I would have ever guessed to have terracotta pots. There are pictures in my profile. The urn I have in my 26g is actually meant to hang on a wall. It has a flat back and is too cool. The Bloody Parrots love it.
Too, remember that terracotta is porous and great for the bio cycle I treat my terracotta just like filter media. It never sees tap water. Once they begin to age and get covered in algae they are awesome (IMO). Last edited by aquarist48; June 25th, 2009 at 05:51 AM.

| Hello - is there anything that needs to be done to the plain clay pot before putting it in the tank??
Thanks,
Robin |

| Hello Robin. I just rinse mine off before I put it into the tank. However, I have well water and don't have chlorine issues. You may want to consider filling a bucket, adding some Prime or Amquel + (whatever dechlorinator you have on hand) and just let it sit for a few minutes. You can expect some bubbles to come from it for a while until it's saturated with water. |

| To Robin
Make sure that the hole on the bottom of the pot is big enough for your betta to swim through or really small so it's impossible for the betta to swim through. Sometimes bettas can get stuck in those holes. |

| Hello aquarist48,
I do have chlorine in my water and with every water change I add TopFin water conditioner. Is that what I would need to soak it in?
Thanks!!
