Stupid heater

Stupid heater, it went crazy again and KILLED flo, shelly and tommy. I'm so sad right now, i cant even tell you how irresponsable i feel right now. They were in a divided tank, tarzan wasnt in the tank at the time, and this happened. ugh everything sucks right now.

well i say its new, i've had for less than 6 months, and only used it for three months. i stopped using it the first time cuz it killed my other fish. LAst night i got it out and plugged it in to rise the temp cuz it was too cold. And lo and behold i get home from shcool and theyre all dead.

I was using it bc i had nothing to heat the tank with, i plugged it in and then unplugged it about an hour later, and so on, i had unplugged it at night cuz the water was around 78-80. So i plugged it in in the morning because it was almost below 70. and it takes about an hour to begin heating the tank. I am going to break that thing. I will go back to the store i got it from and ask them to explain to me what the heck is wrong with the thing. oh and the first time this happened to me, i had left the heater on all day and all night, si thought nothing would happen.

is it possible the heater was a non-submersible or partly submersible, and it was fully submerged? if that were the case, water would have gotten where it shouldn't and caused an electrical short. If this were to happen it isn't safe any more, for your fish OR for your hands.

Very sorry to hear about your fish.

I use 50W for both of my 5g's and one of my 10's.
The other 10 has a 75W and my daughter's 10 has a 50.

I use Visi-therm stealth heaters.

I've never heard of that brand. Heaters are one item that I do not buy if it's a brand I haven't heard of. Heaters are crazy though.... the one that fried my sparkling gourami tank was a Visi-Therm, but I've had great success with other Visi-Therms. Weird. We use Ebo Jager, Visi-Therm Stealth, and Rena in our tanks right now.
