| I rescued a Betta Today I rescued a crowntail boy from a Petsmart store. The boy looks pretty bad: fin rot, missing fin/tail parts. He is very young and very skinny. I really afraid that I am too late to save him. I hope for the best. When I brought him home he had no color. Now (5 hours later) he is getting colors back. He spat out pellets and freeze dried bloodworms I gave him and shows no interest in food. I will try to feed him again in an hour. Please, my friends, wish us good luck. |

| Aw, congrats for bringing him home. With some TLC I bet he'll be eating in no time.
Best of luck with him, he's really cute |

| i hope he gets better. thank you for rescuing a betta.
you said you were having trouble with feeding him? i have had bettas before with out heaters and they wouldn't eat that well, but when i started having them in heated tanks they would eat more than perfectly.
also, how big us the tank? and does the tank have a filter? i'm just curious.
oh i forgot to mention, i used to feed them betta pellets and they were usually to big to fit in the mouth and they would spit it out. try frozen foods and tropical flakes.
hopes he gets well!! Last edited by capekate; May 20th, 2009 at 10:11 PM.

| Thank you, thank you, my friends for your support and warm wishes!
The little one is doing great today. His appetite is back. I temporary keep him in a quarantine 1 G bowl. I have a 6 G cycled Eclipse tank waiting for him. Right now it's easier for me to medicate him in a small bowl. Also I want to make sure he is disease free. His water is 76-78F, treated with Prime, Vita-Chem and I added an almond leaf to his bowl. |

| don't worry about the eating thing right away. One of my females when I first got her, didn't eat for almost a week. And she has been making up for it ever since! |

| it's amazing to see his colors returning. What a great illustration of how good water quality, room to swim, and most importantly tlc and love, can turn a fish around. Good job on the rescue ara |

| Wonderful job on the rescue! I hate to see those adorable bettas in the tiny cups... so unfair!
If you want to really tempt him, I'd suggest frozen foods like brine shrimp (the potato chips of the fish world, but might get him eating) or bloodworms (none of my bettas could ever resist). Frozen foods may be more palatable to him than freeze dried or pellets. Best of luck to your little man! |

| Great job with him and I'd say you've given him a real chance of making it and becoming a happy, healthy betta. I would feed him exclusively hikari frozen bloodworms, thawed. The high moisture in them would be make it easier for him to digest his food and the protein helps with healing the damage he got at the store. It also seems to be a favorite food with all our bettas. |

| The little one gets better and better every day. Who knew that he was a patriotic fish, his colors are red, white and blue! Swims a lot, eats a lot, builds bubble nests. I am a little concerned about his fins/tail. They haven't grown much. I am afraid that he got permanently damaged and will never recover. But we will see. Tomorrow I finally will be moving him from his 1 G bowl. I planed on placing him in a 6 G tank but decided to move my other Betta Light to the 6 G and the little one will be placed in the Light's 3 G tank. |

| awww what a sweet face he has...Ara.. He looks a lot brighter in the newest pictures. Is he eating now? I think in time his fins will recover, good food, clean water and all that. I would think the frozen food for now. Im not a big fan of the pellets anymore for bettas unless they are pre-soaked. Nice.. |

| He's looking so much better! Sometimes the fin regrowth can take a while to get started, but they will grow back. |

| I have moved Lucky (that's how I decided to call him). He is doing really well, enjoying swimming around and discovering his new aquarium. However Light isn't too pleased to get a new bigger tank. He sits in one place all day long and doesn't even want to take a look at his beautiful home. |

| Did you move any of Light's decor with him? Does he have the same type of lighting? |
