treating with Maracyn... help please?

okay, all of my bettas have been doing really well since I got all of them. Recently, about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that one of my female bettas (tank with 5 of them) was missing a few scales on her back. I thought maybe it was the beginning of some type of fin rot, so I began changing 10% of the water every day. Before this I changed 20% of the water every week and treated it with a water conditioner and Stress Coat+.

After watching her for about week I noticed that although she hadn't lost any more scales on her back, she was lossing them one the top of her head. Now the scales on her head are gone and it looks very fleshy. I think i should treat for a bacterial infection at this point and so I got maracyn 1 & 2.

Can I use both at the same time at the full dosage or should I only do a half dosage of both?

She still eats and swims completely normally. The ammonia is 0, nitrite is 0, and nitrate is 2. The water is kept at a constant 77 degrees. She is fed twice a day 4-5 pellets of Hikari bio gold.

Any help would be appreciated. I just don't want anything to happen to her!

I'm sorry your betta isn't feeling well.
You can use Maracyn-Two and Maracyn together according the to directions on the package.

Good luck, I hope she improves soon.

Are they divided? Are you sure they are not fighting? Just a thought. Sorry to hear that.

Nice catch. I totally missed that. It could be an aggression issue.
Fin Rot effects the fins, not the scales on the back.
It would be a really good idea to separate them. A 10g tank isn't large enough for a sorority.

Are these sisters?

losing scales sounds like an injury, either from aggression or possibly a decoration in the tank. have you noticed nipping or chasing between the bettas?

okay, sorry I haven't been on, my interent was down.

I have been watching closely and I have never even seen them chase each other. They are not sisters. I didn't know at the time when I got them that you aren't supposed to put any bettas together unless they are sisters. They were all really sick and tiny when I got them from walmart for 50 cents each. I think that is the only reason they are okay together in the tank is because they were all barely alive when I got them. I have the dividers ready in case anything should ever happen.

The good news is that she looks fine now. The treatment of antibiotics seemed to have worked wonderfully. I will post pictures one of these days so everyone can see how much they have changed.

oh, and they will be going into a 25 gallon aquarium once i can find a good home for my goldfish who have completely out grown their tank.
