Is My Betta A Marble Or Not?

Hi,

I am wondering if my betta is a marble or not? Will he change colours in the future?

Thanks.

He is very sweet looking.. but I noticed he has a problem with his fins. Has he suffered fin rot?

When I got him from Petsmart, I think he chewed himself or may had fin rot but I thought he recovered. Does he still have problems? He is also very skinny and I am trying to pump him up a little.

Well, he doesnt look like he has recovered, tho I dont know how bad it was before this photo was taken. It looks pretty bad tho.. either he has been chewing on his tail, but his dorsal fin looks pretty frayed as well.
Have you done anything to treat this yet?

I was looking at the dorsal fin.. it looks separated almost to the spine..
The tail finage is very uneven and looks torn..even for a CT.

Except for the green, they do look alike!

As for the fin rot, I don't know. I kept his water really clean and Ebi has been living in his aquarium (divided) and is totally healthy. Do I need to treat Unagi for a fin rot? Is it really fin rot? How do I determine that? The edges are clean though, no white or black edge.

Well, to answer the original question, I wouldn't call him a marble. I would call him a butterfly though, with a bit of a mottled pattern

I had one betta that had VERY long rays like that.
And my CT only has that green when the flash on the camera goes off.

its hard to tell from his pic, but first off, I dont think he is a marble...but as he colors up more it will be easier...as far as his finnage, they are so see thru its hard to tell but he looks like a vt to me with some fin rot...but im not 100% ..either way, some stress coat+ and partial daily water changes should heal him right up...maybe feed him some frozen bloodworms and baby brine shrimp to fatten his belly...hes a nice looking boy !

He is veyr skinny and I am trying to pump him up a little. I will go check on him later to see if it is really fin rot.

OMG I thought it is his natural colouring of some blue wash! Its blue, not black. I have been keeping his water really clean, what else can I do?

potter i believe the "black" is actually purple/blue and part of his coloring..does it look purple or blue to you?

What are you seeing?
ibetta..please give her a chance to respond to things and stop jumping to conclusions...you cannot say he ISNT a CT with fin damage like that.....and please edit a post instead of posting back to back postings that take up too much of the forum and thread itself...

I don't believe he is a VT, mine looks exactly the same and he's a CT.

rofl, do NOT depend on that label!
I bought a female VT, and it turned out to be a male PK.
but, I def. think it's a CT. I have 4, and they all look different.

Yes, I just checked him up. I made him flare at a mirror although it took me a lot of effort to get him flaring as he is docile. It is part of his colouring. He does have some weird colouring going on. A little purple/blue in splashes all through the tail and now I see some light pink on his tail and fins that were never there when I got him. He doesn't have fin rot as his tail and fin ends are spiky and I see the webs clearly but when he doesn't flare, he does look pretty strange lol, rather spiky. This guy is way too skinny though but he is doing better than when he first came.

Ibetta, he IS a crowntail. As much of a beginner I am, I know how to differentiate my bettas. I am really not sure about Bettafix and Melafix as iI have heard a lot of controversial things about them and I have to make sure he is really sick before I medicate. I do not just medicate as it could be more fatal than good. Sometimes, a little aquarium salt goes a long way but he is doing well and I just tested the water today and it is fine.

they will change as they grow and their colors will continue to change until they are all healed up and in a proper tank...all of what you are doing...dont medicate him just keep up with good clean water and some stress coat....

Thanks Shawnie. I nearly had a heart attack back there. I admit he wasn't in good shape when I got him and I haven't gotten him for long, maybe a week or two ago and I really think he did bite his tail when he was in the store from stress/boredom. Its amazing how his colours change for the time that he has been with me. Now he has pink wash growing in what a surprise!

Out of all 5 of my bettas, Unagi always worries me. Today, he decided to change his fin colour from white to pink. It started with a little pink yesterday and now its pretty obvious pink! I could see on some parts, he is wanting to change it to red! Not sure if he could control it, but he sure is a weird little betta. The dark blue/purple on his tail is also showing more and more now. I think he is pretty young and is still changing colours. I hope to see more of what he will become!

I think he looks lite a Butterfly VT with some fin damage. I had a Butterfly with that same coloring.. Sugar . His color went from Red to a bluish/puple color..that's what he looks like. With care, good food and clean water you will have a very pretty Betta there very soon. Good Luck with him Potter!

I paid a CT price for him though. He does have spikes that look like a CT's tail. I think within a week or two we will know for sure lol.
