| Is this a young Male or Female? Anyone able to sex this guy? It's a juvie I'm thinking of buying, but only if it's a male. The red betta is the father. |

| It looks like a female to me. But i'm not the most experienced person when it comes to bettas so it will be interesting to see if I'm right or wrong..lol. |

| That was what I thought, but the seller says it's a male. |

| It should have an eggspot (ovipositor) if it's female. It honestly looks female to me but ask the seller to look for the eggspot. Hopefully they will be accurate. If it's still young (I'm assuming it is), it might serve you better to just find a betta that's a little older so you can tell if it's really male. The anal fin is kind of long but one of my females has a longer anal fin that that. |

| Looks female to me too.
Where are you buying it from? If you can check, see if you can see her white ovapositor (breeding tube) but it's not always visable. |

| That one is really cute. I don't think there's really a good way to sex them so young without looking for the eggspot. Have you looked into a different seller? Shipping sucks but you can get some really nice fish. Aquabid or someone like Martinismommy has nice fish. (I don't know if she has any right now for sale) |

| I'm in NZ. Can't use Aquabid or Martinismommy unfortunatly. ( I'd love one of hers!) The LFS has a few males but they're in poor shape, so if either of these is a male it'd be ideal. |

| I assume so. It's hard to get any kind of Betta's other than Veiltails where I am. |

I thought for sure the first was female. Same shape as Prissy.
The second one, I didn't have any idea. |

| I'm betting they are males because of the length of the ventral fins...Do you happen to know how old they are? I personally like the blue male better... |

| Can't do both unfortunatly Whichever I get is going to be a daddy! I already have a lovely female, but my male is to old to breed with. My female is blue........... |

| They are still young. I just spoke to the seller, he said they look very different to their sisters and both act like males, so I'm fairly happy that they are both males. |

| If you plan on breeding them then go for the blue...He's the better fish....I wish there was a way for me to get a fish to you!
Can you ask him to send a pic of the females? Last edited by Lucy; May 13th, 2009 at 06:44 AM.

| She is a very nice female....She is actually better than either one of those males..Is that the only boys you can find for breeding? |

| Unfortunatly yes. Unless I buy a beat-up petstore Betta. They also have another that I don't have a pic of, but I'll have a look at too. |

| Just got back with the new guy, he's in his bag, floating in his new tank at the moment. I didn't get either of those guys. She had a third with the same colouring as my female, so I bought him home instead. He's a bit stressed at the moment but I'll post a pic once he calms down! |
