Calm water for bettas

I'm sure this has been covered but I can't seem to find it. I heard bettas like a more still environment. I was thinking of getting a betta for a 20 gal. community tank. I like having air stones in the tank, I have two and a larger filter for the tank so the water moves pretty good. Is this going to be a problem for a betta.

The biggest problem with that tank will be the other fish...Betta fish are not community fish....They do best when kept alone....You are correct about Bettas liking still water..I have 100 plus Bettas in all kinds of tanks and bowls..Most of my tanks have sponge filters which is perfect for Bettas....They don't really the like heavy flow of an overflow filter...If you do keep it in a smaller tank you will need to change the water more frequently......

I hope this info helps..

the large filter i think would be an issue. i have my betta in a 20 gallon community tank but the filter is a basic HOB 20-40 and doesnt move the water too much.

what fish are in the community? there are a lot of fish that are totally not compatible and some bettas just do not tolerate a community at all!

Right now I am cycling my 20 gal. I had it up about 8 years ago and recently felt the urge to put it back up. I know they don't get along with long finned fish, however I wanted to try only 1betta, 2guppies, 2plattys, ghost shrimp/algae eater, and maybe some neons. The guppies shrimp and betta will have the biggest trouble, but I was going to have a different small 3 gal. setup for the betta if there is a problem. If the water is moving what is the problem for the betta?
