Well, I've been over a full year without bettas, beginning with when I left for Aus. There were a few massive storms that knocked out the power over the summer, and none of my
betta-sitters fish survived, including the ones she was watching for me

. I wanted to try keeping killifish, so I got a few of those and avoided making eye contact in betta sections of stores.
I am apparently killifish impaired. I only have two surviving fry from 6 months of trying, and my male from one pair and female from the other (different varieties so interbreeding is possible but frowned upon) are no longer with us, long story short killies jump and are skilled at finding tiny holes. Anyway, my remaining killies are not being bred (I may try again when I'm not in a dorm).
So about a month ago I was wasting time at Wal Mart and stopped by the fish area. Remember what I said about not making eye contact? I fail. I brought home a red veil tail with white edges to his tail. His name is Jasper.
Then, when my favorite
goldfish died (he was a bad swimmer with odd floating issues), I decided I had to have another bubble eye, so I went in search of one and wow, was that a steel-blue and white crowntail? Yes, it was. No, no, I can't spend that much money... until I get my next paycheck. Unfortunately for that paycheck, when I returned to see if JUST THAT FISH was still there, he was, and he had friends. I nearly took home two crowntails (the other one was steel, mustard, and purple irradescent) but then I saw something I have never before seen except online: an almost perfect pearl-white betta! Well I could hardly leave him behind... so since I REALLY couldn't afford 3 $8 fish, I put down the steel and mustard one and took the others to the register.
The white one's name is Jace, and he's a delta tail. I haven't had him flair to see how wide his tail goes, but he's beautiful enough for me. He flashes baby pink and baby blue when he swims.
The crowntail is Zane.
My camera is currently buried somewhere in the piles of college stuff being packed to go home... and Jasper got to be in the first wave of fish to go home, so he's not here right now. So I'll have photos sometime after I get home. But, I just wanted to come say "Hi! I'm back!" to all of you!
