| Its Finally Happening! It took me three months, but I am finally suffering a full-blown case of swine flu. Just kidding. Its Multiple Tank Syndrome!! I went to the pet store to waste some time today and walked out with a baby crowntail male betta! I say he is a baby because he is SO tiny (just barely an inch long including his tail!) The pet store informed me that all of there non-veil tail bettas are locally bred (how incredible!) and this little guy was beautiful and so active in his little bowl. Pictures will be following, but right now he is being acclimated to his new tank. Of course, I needed somewhere to put this little guy and purchased the 5g kit from WalMart and accessories from everywhere else! My new little boy is named Eos and he is black on his front portion and a shimmery blue over the rest of his body with the slight possibility of red streaks in his tail fins (we shall see when he colors up!)
I can't wait to get him in his tank ... hopefully in another 30 minutes! Once he is in there...pictures will be posted. I can't believe I caved in ... but this guy just captured my heart when I saw him.
A little bit of trivia - EOS was an all first-class airline that flew between New York and London and their aircraft were painted blue and silver and this airline is the inspiration for my little guy's name!

| Okay...I'm seriously, seriously frustrated. The filter that came with this tank kit is just too strong for my little guy. Petco/Petsmart/Petland do not have any small filters with an adjustable flow that would be appropriate for this new tank. I ordered the Azoo Palm Filter off Drs. Foster & Smith and unfortunately it will not be in this tank for approximately 10 days (due to the anticipated delivery and my flight schedule). I called a local fish store recommended by Petco and when the guy asked me what kind of fish was in my tank and I said betta he responded, and I kid you not, with: "Well, honestly, the betta doesn't need any filter at all and they want their water to be still. They don't produce much waste and you could probably go three weeks without having to change their water without a filter in there."
Oh. My. Goodness. Ignorant, ignorant, ignorant! I'm off to the big three pet chains to find ANYTHING to put in his tank that won't slam him onto the gravel ... even if it is one that sits on the side of the tank. I might try making a sponge filter, how do I do that? |

| Aw, he sounds adorable, welcome Eos.
That LFS was close, most bettas don't like alot of current, but we know they do best in a warm cycled tank, thus, the filter.
I hope you haven't left yet, here's a link to a couple of ideas How To: Slow Down Current From A Filter
I don't think this is mentioned in that link but someone (forgot who) slows theirs down by cutting a clean never seen soap panty hose and covering the out take.
We can't wait for pics of Eos. |

| Lucy, thank you for the response! I did head back to Petland and ended up purchasing one of those filters that suction cups in the corner of the tank and uses air bubbles as a stop-gap measure until my new filter arrives. If the new filter still has a strong current I'll definitely use this idea! Although the new filter does have adjustable flow so hopefully it won't be a problem.
Below I'll post some pics of Eos! |

| Okay, trying to catch Eos on film is like trying to see the face of God. It just isn't going to happen! Here are two pictures...one of his tank and one of his back half (it at least shows his tail). Unfortunately, the lighting in the tank isn't great where he likes to hide so his colors don't show much. Next week I will try and get some more pics! |

| lol look at him zipping around that tank.
I wish Walmart carried those 5g kits when I was looking for mine.
I like my mini bows, but they look a bit longer and shorter......better suited for bettas and adfs |

| Congrats on your new betta boy and your new acquired MTS, lol. He sounds really cute though its hard to tell in the pics, lol. Maybe after a while he will get used to the camara and learn to sit still. |

| It's probably a good thing you can't get pictures! He's so happy he's swimming around like he's crazy with joy! He's very handsome, from what I can tell, and the tank looks great! |
