Awesome, a torn fin already.

Day three, and I've just noticed Keun's caudal fin is slightly ripped. It looks like he's caught it on something in the tank, although I did the pantyhose test on both my swim-through ornaments. I'm half wondering if he pinched himself against the filter intake, since he enjoys hanging out on-top of it to build his nests.

Anyway, what do I do? Put him back in the breeder box and add stress coat+? I have a more betta friendly 3-gallon in the works, but it's still on the tail end of the cycle (in other words I've got nitrates but the nitrites are still up there), so obviously I can't move him in there. Tips, please? ASAP?

EDIT - I can't find vitachem or bettafix in any of the shops here in the UK! Please please help!

I don't know, since I don't have a credit card or pay-pal account, all my online shopping is done through my parents... I'll check with them if my local PetsAtHome (a chain petstore like petco or something) can't order it for me.

I've merged your threads, please don't cross post, it makes it confusing for the members trying to help and for you to keep track of the suggestions made.

I wouldn't put him in a breeder box. Is the filter current too strong for him?
Pristine water to prevent infection, extra stress coat and a couple drops of Garlic Guard or garlic juice should help him heal quickly.

you cant only a mod can lol...he will heal fine with small daily water changes and stress coat+ ...it will take a couple week tho...you can also use the pantyhose to put around the intake vavle in the meantime ..goodluck with him!

No, but he likes hanging out on-top of the filter to nest, so I'm worried he might have caught himself on the intake in passing~

You might want to put a clean panty hose over the intake.

Opps...Shawnie!

If you have an extra fishnet, you might try cutting the netting off the frame and use a rubber band to secure it snugly around the intake portion of the filter. The pantyhose does work, but clogs faster than netting will. A drop or 2 per gallon daily of garlic juice could help prevent infection, just look for pure minced garlic that has no additives or mix a little garlic powder with some treated water.

URGENT - It's not gotten worse in that it's not infected or anything, but this morning I noticed some of the previously tattered bits were now entirely missing chunks. Could he be biting them off himself? Is there any chance the cories in with him would be going after the damaged fin?
