What would you say growths on either side of a dorsal fin and other apparent bumps (growths as well?) under the skin at other places on his body would be? And if I told you that there appeared to be "something white" emerged from the growths along the dorsal?

A parasite of some sort?


B/c Ember appears to have whatever that might be.
He's eating normally, flaring, active. His parameters are fine (will post specific later).
Anyone know?

HI Red,
by your description it sounds like a viral infection called Lymphocystis, Cauliflower disease. Small tumors or growths, that develop into what looks like cauliflower. If you google Lymphocystis, you may find more information and treatment.

Poor Ember, it does look like some of the photos I came across, and in the articles one of the common places for these to grow is along the lateral line at the base of the fins but also among other places on the body.
There is no treatment and eventually the fish's immune system will build a defense against it but it may take awhile. Keeping the fish in as less stress as possible, clean water conditions and it should go away on its own over time, from what I read, it appears not to be fatal..
btw, Ember looks an awful lot like my Midas boy...

Yep, they sure do look a lot alike... I just love the copper colored betta's and was very happy to find him in Sept. He is still a youngn...but doing good.

I've had Ember since november I believe. He's a sweety but not necessarily the most social fish I've got. He likes to hide, and squeeze into ridiculously small spaces
