| It really is an addiction isn't it? So pfp put the puffer idea in my head and I went to the LFS this morning to check if they carried DP's, and I didn't even make it to the actual fish room. As soon as I walked by the reptile room (that's where they keep the cups ) I was affected by fish gravity and had to go look at the betta boys. Of course I had to bring a couple home, and this guy DSC00134.jpgstarted flaring at me as soon as I walked in the door. Meet Deamien! The name comes from the color and the attitude (good lord the attitude!)
This guy DSC00135.jpgI'm at a loss for a name for though. I swear when he was in the store he was the color of a brand new penny, and was gonna name him based on that, but when I got home, POOF!, he's red! So I guess copper isn't as appropriate a name as I thought. Any ideas anyone?
Oh and BTW: I never did get around to finding out about the puffs. |

| Thank you all. Horrible pics, I know, but I've never bothered taking pictures of an aquarium before. They almost look identical in the pics, but the as yet nameless fella has some teal on his face. Any body got any tips? I got a sony cyber-shot 7.2 mp digital. |

Cybershot is a good pocket camera, put it into macro mode and try to shoot in natural light without the flash so you dont 'wash out' the colours.
Nice looking fish though |

| Once in the tank you camera should autofocus better, the fish not the camera, the camera won't do anything if you stick it in the tank, lol. If you can raise the ISO on the camera you should be able to take decent pictures without the flash. Welcome home guys Another betta addict, lol |

Well, I know little about cameras, and I'm not great at taking pics myself, but..
Using a flash will wash out the coloring of a betta. They can look quite different with a flash. Example:
With flash: IMG_2016.jpg
Without flash: IMG_2254.JPG
So the best thing you can do is light the area as much as possible, and do not use the flash; or at least so much that the flash won't wash out the betta's colors. If you don't know much about changing settings and such and use your camera on automatic settings (like me), then keeping the flash off will likely result in a slower shutter speed; and unless your subject and your camera is perfectly still there can be quite a bit of motion blur. So in that case, a tripod is best! But if you don't have one of those, stabilize your arm on something so that your camera is still. As far as keeping your betta still enough to "pose" for a pic? That's all about luck...
Here is one more I took with a flash: IMG_2094.jpg
This is an old pic, and I've since redecorated. But I had to edit the out of that shot with a photo editing program; the colors were not only completely all wrong, but every imperfection (i.e. water spots) in my glass was visible, and all four of my fish had the "animal version" of red eye. | try to take photo's (if you're using a flash) from a 45* angle that way you won't get reflections off the glass.
I've a cyber-shot but no macro setting. Most of the time I just use either iso or the auto setting. |
