too small to devide?

so I'm sitting here looking at my new 5gal and thinking .... deviders! or at least 1, and more bettas! anyhow, seeing as 2.5gal is the min. for a betta, can I devide my 5 or is it just too small a tank to devide? and what would look good with the white gravel I for some reason decided would look nice in there/

I guess you can divide a 2.5, personally, I wouldn't go for anything less than 5g's though.

Don't you have a ten? I'd divide that before a 5 gal if you've got a choice. Simply b/c you can't have the water levels full with a divider and you'd be at less then 2.5 in reality... However I know that some members do have 5 gals that are divided.
Good Luck!

i think a few people have divided their fives, but i personally wouldn't. 2.5 is the minimum (and i have two of them) but IMO it's really a little too small.

I have divided my 5 gallon at times, when I have had to separate too many betta. It doesn't work too bad, and I was able to fill the tank up because the divider flush against the canopy when it is closed, I am careful when it is open.

well, I'm still pondering since the 5 hasn't cycled yet, and dang it pink! You just had to put that thought in my head! Now I gotta go to the LFS on my way to work tommorrow and see if they carry dp's!

I'd not divide a 5g, except as a short term thing. A 10g does give them a more usable swimming space.

yes, I only made dividers for the 5 gallon for emergency, I personally would not choose that set up for long term. Dividers kind of scare me. I have Merlin in a 3 gallon (eclipse) because I wanted something that would fit on my desk, it actually give a reasonable amount of room for him to swim back and forth, but that is about the minimum I would want to confine a betta to.

Remember it's surface area that's important, because bettas swim back and forth rather than up and down. An actual 2.5 tank probably provides more surface area than half a 5. Anyway I would not put a betta in anything less than 5 personally. Divided 10s are nice.
