Female Bettas and..

an albino rainbow/red tailed shark [im never sure which one, but they have the same manerisms]

I've seen 3 beautiful female bettas in a shop near me and i wanted to put them in my established 10 gallon tank which houses my shark

I've never had a casulty beacause of the shark though he did like to chase my molly but didnt nip, there are plenty of hiding spaces for my shark though she just cruises around the castle

has anyone had any problems? or any specific reason to why it wouldnt work? or even if 3 bettas is too much/little

thanks =]

For a 10G three bettas and a shark is really too much im afraid, i would say one betta and a shark is too much, rainbow and red tailed sharks need big tanks so they can establish their territory

Putting a Betta in with a red tail or rainbow shark isn't a good idea especially in a 10g.
Most bettas don't do well in community tanks. It might work for a little while, but one day you might wake up to find someone hurt or dead.
Bettas don't need or necessarily want compnay. They're very territorial.
Three bettas in 10g isn't recommended. The best chance for a soroity tank is having sisters who have grown up together and in a much bigger tank than a 10g.

+2 ..betta's in a community tank is a risk..with a back up tank in case it doesnt work, has been tried many times...but a betta against a rts or rainbow shark, will not be good in a 10 gal...he wont tolerate anything in that small of a tank before he kills it or stresses it to death

I had to transfer my female betta to my RTS ten gal (before he was upgraded) due to a missive ammonia battle I started having in her tank.
She didn't have any problems with him but her tore her up pretty well.
Your shark will want a territory to patrol so I'd recommend upgrading him to a tank that's at least 36" long. He'll love you for it.
Good luck with him.
I'd say find 3 five gals and buy a sturdy shelving unit and enjoy those girls.

thanks for the advice!
I'm glad i asked or this could have turned out really wrong!

I've just upgraded to a 28 gallon 3fter so I'm a little short on space!

hmm i might have to give up on them

you still have the 10 gal?
you could divide that in 3 for the girls.

yes i do....but i have my shark in there and I love her!

what about the 28 gallon? it contains tetras [non nippy], wcmm, danios and a guppy or do they just prefer the solitude?

Hmmm... I'd say that given the options the girls would probably be better solo. :s

i wouldn't put three girls together that arent sisters. it can be hit or miss with sorority tanks even when all of the girls have been raised together like with the four in my 20 gallon. i tried 3 girls in a 10 gallon when i ended up with two females dumped on my lap by friends who decided it was a good idea to get females for the males they had, so i got a third to see if the sorority would work and it was definitely a disaster
