Bigger tank for my betta

I have a very special little betta lady named Miss P, and I am wondering if I should move her into my 5g hex tank. She is currently in a 2g and has been for 1 month since her freedom from the cup at Petco. My 5g is a Marineland tank and i'm not sure if the filter is too strong. If this is acceptable would it also be possible to add a tank mate or should she be solo? Thanks for any and all help.

a 5 gallon is a great home for a betta the filter flow shouldn't be too strong for her, but if it is you can always use a rubber band to attach filter sponge to the output.

you can try ghost shrimp or snails in the tank with her, but IMO bettas are best just by themselves. their personalities really come out!

I'm really new at this, and not sure how you attach the filter sponge to the output. Miss P's personality has really come alive since her liberation, and I just want to make sure her life span is long lived.

Thanks for the quick response.

Welcome to fishlore!

Bigger is always betta.... I mean better. Sorry I couldn't resist.

I think she'll love it in there. I'm not familiar with the marineland systems, but to slow my output I used a rubberband to hold the sponge in the current.

I have a marineland hex 5 gallon, and the current isn't strong at all, especially if you keep the water level just below that of the output, so the water falls into the tank. I fill mine though, and it's not a problem for my betta at all; he even swims right under the output.

Thank you to everyone for the information, I am currently cycling so I can move her into the 5g.

You can use some of the media from your cycled tank to instantly cycle the 5 gal.
