Ok so I've spent more time then I should have (again) researching betta's, Betta Genetics, ect. However I came across an idea that's really roused my curiosity but Google seems to be failing me.
I want to see a picture of a VT x CT betta.
According to the finnage genetic's:
VT is the dominant long finned tail type (or just dominant tail type since PK's are resessive). Since the CT triat is co-dominate then phenotypically you "should" get a VT betta with the reduced webbing and ray extensions of a CT (keeping in mind the webbing reduction will not be as much as a regular CT).
Please I beg of you my fellow Betta Addicts/Admiers.... find me the image of such a fish. I've been going nuts trying to imagine it.
Thank-you,
Red
P.S. I shall try to think of a suitble reward for finding said fish...
I think Lucy we'll call that link a dead end. I registered but can't find anything there. The link simply takes you to the first page.
and yeah I think that site does give off a bit of a funny vibe... probably just me but now that you say they support Betta Bowls I don't think I'll be going back there...

Technically. However a combtail is a CT X with any of the single tail types. I'm more interested in seeing how the veil would combine with the CT trait. I've seen "half sun's" which are half-moon (long fined or PK) X CT. But I think that you'd see a different sort of result with the VT cross.
I have a question??....Since the veiltail is so dominant wouldn't you end up with the majority of the Betta fry being veiltail and the rest being hybrids??
Red, my Coppers that were the product of a halfmoon CT cross produced what they call halfsun tails..Similar to combtails...It is my understanding that Veils are so doninate that no matter what you cross it with you will end up with Veils the 1st generation...
Not really. See the genetics behind it. Is that wild B.splendens are similar to the traditional PK. VT arose from a mutation in the tail length, once the VT was established all other long tails arose from further mutations. It's the dominant tail type so crossing any of the other single tail types (HM or SD ect. ) to a VT is basically undoing all the selectiv breeding. Part of the reason VT's arn't as popular in Shows. The CT however is slightly different. With the CT we're talking about a different type of mutation.
CT is a co-dominant mutation. Which means aslong as a betta carries the CT gene it will show the gene to one degree or another. Some HM breeders have used CT to work on their HM lines and it's takes generations to get rid of all the extended rays again. Unlike other triats you don't need two CT allels to show the extended rays. So to bring this back around.
A CT VT cross would only have one copy of the VT gene but that one copy would still cause extended Rays, slightly diluted to be sure (meaning not as extended in the CT parent but more then the VT).
VT would control the "shape" of the tail but not the rays...

I thought that since the CT is co-dominate you'd still see the trait?
*add on to previous post: Every offspring would display different degrees, so some could appear as almost normal VT's.

Ok..Here it is!!!..lol..As close as I could get..IF you read the thread, the lady crossed a crowntail and veiltail...There is two videos of 58 day old fry from the spawn..http://www.bettafishforum.com/forum/...btail-fry.html
Red,
have you come across this site yet? I love it... shows great charts on genetics, whether finage or coloring...
Not sure if anyone has linked this one to you yet?
Check it out! http://vanriel.myadsl.nl/BT-AABtailtypegenetics.htm
Kare, what I have learned in my spawns is there is no real way of predicting color...The tail types have held true but the colors I have ended up with blows my mind!
BTW, I have a beautiful little green MG boy with your name on him lol
