| Been thinking...again I know it's a dangerous past-time...but I've been thinking about something. I've given thought to setting up a sorority tank for lady bettas. If I were to get several females...sisters from the same spawn, I was hoping they'd work and play well together. I was thinking about getting 1 of MM's males (for my daughter) and several of her females (for me), the male of course having his personal bachelor pad, and the ladies having a 15-20 deluxe suite. I have no intention of breeding them, way too scary for me, but the thought of putting several betta together, even females also worry me. Thoughts anybody? |

| Anytime you run a sorority tank it can pose a risk.....As a general rule females that have been raised together can stay together...That is the key to success is buying from a breeder you trust...
I do not have any females left as of today.....Shawnie bought my last 3 girls! I will have some coming up from my MG spawn in a couple of weeks....
Good luck with whatever it is you end up doing....Just remember, always have a back up plan in case it doesn't work out... |

| i wouldn't go for anything smaller than a 20, even the four girls that i have in my 20 from MM have their occasional squabbles. you'll have to have a back-up plan, from experience i can say that differences in temperaments between bettas is HUGE for some, so you may end up with a naturally aggressive girl that just can't be housed with the rest. i'd get a 20 long if i were you, that can be very easily divided for four betta girls if they don't get along. |

| Or a 25/30 you really can't get too big with a sorority tank, just too crowded. |

If I were to try it and set up another 29, just for the girls, how many should go in? I mean, if it's a sister tank, then the (almost) entire stock of the tank would go in at once...I'd leave room in the stocking plan for 3 corys (to be added later). I'm not sure if the "1 inch per gallon" plan would work in this case because bettas can be potentially very aggressive fish, and wouldn't adding several (betta) at a time really overwhelm the cycle? Sorry to sound so ignorant, but if I do this you know I wanna do it right. Perhaps the key to this would be to have an already well established (several months old) tank for them to move into, instead of one that is just a few weeks after cycle. Hummmm, cories should probably be living there first too, and they also like a well established tank. |

| for a 29 you could probably go with six or seven, maybe more if it's heavily planted.
personally i wouldn't add corycats, the poor things will probably get attacked. |

I'm having visions of a jungle tank with only a few girls ducking in and out and around as splashes of color.... Having said that I've never had a soroity tank... or even schooling fish come to think of it |

I was just dreaming up an idea today, nothing at all concrete. Besides...if I go ahead with the sister tank, I'd still have to have a "plan B" in case of emergency, I haven't gotten that far yet. |

IMO the best thing you can do is get a really long tank rather than a taller one as it makes dividing a lot easier if you have to do that |
