This little boy is such a spoiled brat.... today I took him out of the tank because I finally decided to put in a substrate (eco complete). So I had him in a 5g bucket with brand new water. He goes and sits on the bottom and holds his pec fins to his side... then I leave him there for a while to let the dust settle, put him back in the tank when most of the cloudiness is gone... and he goes to the bottom and holds his pec fins to his side. He is pouting beyond belief! Ugh! He's such a spoiled brat!!! Seriously, what have I done to this poor boy, he'll never be a tough boy, he gets beat up by girls! lol He's been pouting for hours now, I swear he is just a little prince...

awww....yeah i completely understand!!!!! the boys are such wimps sometimes! my girl hera is a tank i tell you, she could probably destroy any of my boys, and would want to if i'd let her. she's definitely a hunter and has some of the most prominent vertical bars i've EVER seen. billy pouts all day, until he knows i'm watching him, and then he holds all his fins out to proudly show me how he gave himself a haircut! i love him to death....but really....

Yeah, Volta could take any of the boys on. And Riviera (RIP) did take all the boys on...
I did put Winter and Volta together once for a few minutes under my very close supervision so that I could see if they had any chemistry (I'd love to breed them, probably never will breed any bettas though). The first few minutes Winter just sits there like nothing's going on. Then Volta comes up to him and flares her gills out huge! Then after a bit Winter starts flaring too, and they did the thing where they go up next to each other and start beating with their fins. That's when momma came in with the net and put them on time out lol. So yeah, Volta is the male in this relationship, and Winter is a wimp. Guess they just don't have that special connection... lol

haha, aww, poor guy!!! well, if you ever DO decide to try breeding, martinismommy just posted a thread on betta breeding. i read it, even though i dont even want to THINK about breeding bettas right now (i'm surrounded by them as it is ), but it was a great read anyways.

Yeah I saw that. Really cool. I'd love to have little baby Winters cause he's my favorite boy in the whole world... but I really think he's too wimpy. The girls will beat the living daylights outta him! lol!

haha, lol....poor guy. well, he'll just have to be a prince and never a king so sad....but dont let him hear you say that!!! if you want a wimpy girl you can use artemis, i didn't realize how little she was until i put her tank next to hera's.....but then again hera is a whale!

Yeah I better not tell him that, he'll start being even more dramatic and like play dead or something...
I didn't know there was such a thing as a wimpy girl lol. All the ones I've came across are vicious man eaters

yeah, i think she got that way after my roommate bought her and tried to put her in a <.5 liter bowl with a pretty large male betta (the delta or halfmoon or whatever that had finrot, in one of my threads)....he stalked her pretty intensely for about 15 minutes, and then gave up and attacked the poor thing. that's really how my MTS started. my roommate had artemis, and my suitemate tried the same thing with her betta, and of course it failed. we ended up inheriting the two girls. we read that they'd be okay in a sorority tank, but there had to be at least three, so we got a THIRD betta girl.....of course the sorority tank didn't end so well. we gave one of the girls to a friend (she unfortunately died after a water change with some questionable conditioner) and the other two got their own tanks. it just snowballed from there somehow....

I started out with a tiny bowl and a 20g brackish tank...
Then I got a 10g for poor Floyd, then someone introduced the marvelous invention called the divider. Then came Emerson (RIP), and then Rodya (RIP ) and then Donovan... and then another tank with Dmitri (RIP) and Winter, and then the girls... lol

Sir Elton pouts if I go into my room (where his aquarium is), but I don't reach for the pellets. I have to do his first water change/gravel vac today, we'll see what happens- he may mistake my fingers for food again (it happened when I put in some new plastic plants). I know, I've spoiled the little guy, but he's just too cute.

LOL! Haircut. Yep, Hermes does that too... ALL the time. I am sooo tired of it. Like every single day I notice he's bitten more off. I don't think he'll be happy until his entire back fin is gone.

I got nipped again. I'm not sure if he mistook me for food or if he was defending 'his territory,' but either way, after he stopped being afraid of the gigantic pink thing mucking about in his tank, I got a couple little nips on my fingers. They actually kind of tickle when they bite XD

After I'd finished disposing of water I went back into feed him, and he was begging like he hadn't just tried to snack on my fingers. Little guy knows no shame.
