Betta Cousins

Hi all, I just started thinking that a thread about some of the wild type betta's would be interesting to see on here. I don't really know a whole lot about them and alot of them sound really neat.

I'm not really sure how to start so I'll begin with a few links to some of the wild types availible on aquabid just to show the diversity with the betta family.

And here is the ibc webpage about wild betta's.

I hope you guys find this interesting.

I have been looking at them on Aquabid....I'm seriously considering trying a breeding pair....(not until the summer though) I think they are SOOOOOOOOO cool!

I think that some of them are really neat. Just the huge variety. There is even a species (a malichi varient I believe) that's native to brackish waters.

I love the wild bettas. The Mahachai are great, as are the Pictas. We've had those 2 species and could see a lot of the behavior traits our pet store bettas show even though we could keep a small group of each species in their own tank safely.

I want to try some betta imbellis in a community tank, but they are only available on a site like aquabid. And right now, I can't afford the crazy shipping. One day....

I hear you. I've been browsing around for some Malichi and they're not even on aquabid right now.

The way we got our Mahachai was at an IBC show. I'd look into the IBC for shows or breeders info nearby and/or find out where the nearest transshipper lives. Our friend's a transshipper and could find any wild betta species for us.

The Mahachai are wonderful bettas, great personalities and very good at getting along together. I'd love to get them again, or the Pictas but I'd like rutilens or imbellis or.. etc, etc.. so many!

The Malichi were the ones that got me hooked on the wild betta's but I'd love any from the Coccina complex.
