Your bettas tank temperature...

Upon reading the betta fish profile on here it says the temp. can be between 70-80 deg. F. I don't have an adjustable heater so the temp fluctuates between 77 and 80 degrees. What is everyone else's temp? I hope this fluctuation is normal.

I keep mine at a 80 degrees. I think that you will be okay with that fluctuation.

Yeah thats a good range. The can survive a lot lower (think about the fish in cups) but they thrive at higher temps. Its the difference between the little guy just floating there and swimming all around.

I have several Betta tanks. Since I live in the Caribbean I don't use heaters, except when I need to. Through the slightly hot days of summer, tank temp (2.5, 3.5, 5.5, 10 gal) stays a bit over the recommended upper range (80-82F) due to the well ventilated room, away from sunlight I keep them in. In the slightly cooler days of winter, temp is ideal for them (78-80F).

However I use a heater to treat/prevent ick in new-coming, stressed from long shipment fish, as right now in my Betta sorority tank, where I keep temp in the 81-82F range for two or three weeks.

78-80* here too, sometimes higher depending on how warm it gets in our place. My betta breeding room is really warm as the tanks are 80-84* The fry tanks are 82- 84*

82 right now but he is in therapy for an abrasion. (Stupid hole in the bottom of the terra cotta pot! Fish lovers beware!) My goal temp will be 80.

Other than when Hollywood was recovering from a nasty torn fin, he has always been at 79.

My heater is really annoying - Hamish lives at 26 degree's which is slightly under 80F.

So I guess I should up it a bit - but my heater is awquard, I don't want to accidentally cook him!

Well, I just keep mine in a simple glass bowl with one decoration and the tank is filled with declorinated water and I do not have a heater but it is still living.

Plecolover, I didn't know you had a betta. I would recommend getting him a larger tank with a heater and filter. He may be living, but I would guess that he is not happy. Look here for more info on betta care: Welcome and Betta Care Guide - Please Read First!!!

77-80 is very good for a Betta. We try to keep ours at 79, but even the best heaters fluctuate a little.
