Divided tanks Pro's and Con's

Now, I've never had a divided betta tank so me making this list sounds sort of funny. However I thought having a pro con list might be interesting to anyone thinking about having one. So feel free to add on any info you'd like.
p.s -I apologize if this sort of things been done before.-

PRO's
- larger volume of water to keep stable parameters
- fewer electrical outlets needed (provided only need one filter ect for tank)
Con's
- escapees
- 1 ill betta = 2 ill betta's
Pro (maybe)
- boys may have better color in response to nearby male presence. (I've heard haven't seen myself)

I know that's not a lot but please feel free to add on.

Possible Con: Constant stress from an "invader" in his territory?
I like your Pros so far.

I am thinking about dividing a tank. We are supposed to be inheriting a mess of tanks in about a week. How could we possibly just let them sit there with no fish or water in them? You guys have really made me want a Betta or 5 since I joined. Not that I mind.

Betta's have that effect.
I started thinking about this list since i had a brief (and fleeting) moment of sanity at the number of tanks I have in my room right now. Also plotting ways to get the boys into bigger tanks is a hobby of mine.

I had a divided 10 gal between 2 betta boys. One I had for a couple of months before I got the other and he was the picture of health. I divided that tank and BOOM he is tearing his tail off and flairing all the time even though a moss wall was inbetween them they KNEW the other was their. the original betta KILLED the newbie by jumping the wall! I will never have a divided betta tank again.

I'd add a con for divided tanks as just plain aesthetics... dividers make tanks look not so great...

I have all my kiddo's in divided tanks..they love eachothers company...(some more than others...floozy sarabi) ...ive been fortunate that none of mine have had issues or disease other than when rafikki did his flying licked by a puppy stunt, or they jumped dividers because of human error...dividing gives me the ability to have many without a house full of 5g tanks....not to mention the 20 gal long is a great conversation piece with a couple of cold ones

I honestly think it all depends on your betta and how they respond to other betta so close. I have my pet betta in their own tanks. My breeding pairs are in divided tanks for breeding reasons.
With a divided tank to prevent Betta going underneath the dividers, have your substrate up enough that the adventurous ones cannot get thru it. Sometimes gravel with marbles work...or a bunch of different sized marbles.

*****The only really bad thing about divided tanks are the fact that if one fish gets a contagious illness the other one will too. To prevent that is to not put new betta in with old betta (my mistake numerous times *slaps head*). If I hadn't of put my newer betta (back in June) in their own tanks back when I had the parasite infestation, then they may have all be alive now.
