moms enjoying him im sure!
One year ago today, my mom passed away from a massive heart attack at 58..it changed me forever and it taught me that life is precious..it also got me more seriously into fish keeping as she always loved fish....tonight I got home and my beloved rafikki has joined her ...not really sure why, as he was heathly as a horse lately..he was 3 so I guess I can say age, but as much as he had been through, I thought he would be around for another 3 years...I dont think ill ever forget his story ever!

awe, Rafiki... OMG, made me cry that you lost Rafiki
I'm glad he had your mom to go to. I know she'll take care of the little bugger and he'll make her smile with his antics.
he'll always be our community baby who survived the puppy lickin'
hugs to you Shawnie i know you'll miss the brave lil' guy

I swear some days are just cursed.
My birthday has always been an unlucky day for me. One example (out of many) is back when I was having my house built and planning my wedding (okay I didn't actually have any involvement in my wedding other than showing up), I got laid off on my birthday and came pretty close to losing my mortgage commitment due to losing my job.
Then 4 years ago on my birthday I was driving home from work in my 6 month old car on the NJ Turnpike, when all of a sudden the guy in front of me stopped suddenly (in a cattle chute no less). I came skidding up behind him sure I was going to rear end him. Amazingly I stopped about one foot behind him. Just as I exhaled I hear a skidding sound, look in my rear view mirror and here is this can bearing down on me. I thought for sure he was going to hit me and drive me into the car in front of me, but somehow he stopped about 6 inches from me.
I thought to myself "finally my birthday jinx has ended", only to get home to have a phone message that I had better get up to the hospital because my mom just died. She had just been at my house the night before and was fine.
So, I can totally relate to how you are feeling, and I'm really truly sorry for your losses. It would have been bad to lose rafikki at any time, but it was especially cruel for him to be taken from you today.

Lucy is right. By all rights rafikki should have died when he jumped out of the tank and got licked by you dog. But you saved him and nursed him back to health. Wasn't he named after a character in the Lion King. Isn't that movie about the Ctcle of Life? So it's fine to feel bad, it's wrong to feel guilt.
