Corys as Betta tankmates?

well low and behold im feeling the effects of MTS and i have a 5 gallon tank sitting empty in my closet and i am considering getting a betta

not sure if it will be a male or a female yet but im wondering would corys be good tankmates for a betta?

or.... what are some other good cleaner type fish that would go good with a betta?

I don't have personal experience, but fom what I've read here on the forum, bettas seem to do well with cories.

Of course, whether it accepts tank mates depends on the bettas personality.

Be sure to have an alternate plan if there's signs of agression.

I agree with what Lucy says but a 5g is a bit small for a betta and cory's.

Cory's prefer to be in groups. You could have one betta and one cory in a 5g (but the cory wouldn't really be happy).

Otherwise i have cory's in with a betta and they do fine.

Hmmm... I hope this doesn't count as hi-jacking the thread but I've been looking around at stocking idea's and I was wondering. Cory's are often recommend as betta tank mates but which of these would work better?
Corydoras habrosus (Salt and pepper catfish)
Corydoras hastatus (Dwarf Corydoras)
Thanks everyone.

Either one would be fine.

My Betta did fine with Corys, Otos, and Ghost Shrimp, but Hollywood is too busy being a diva to worry about his tankmates

I have a Betta in a 5 gallon tank, and like you wanted to add cories. But there is no room to keep a school of Cories in with a Betta in 5 gallons. So I bought an Eclipse 12 that I put a school of Cories in and in a couple of weeks will be putting my Betta in.

The reason I am waiting to add the Betta is because it was recommended on this site to add the Betta after the Cories so that the Betta don't feel as if the Cories are intruding on it's territory.

I agree with the other posters that a 5g would be too small for tankmates. But corys do work with some betta if they're in a bigger tank.

I have these 2 kinds of pygmy corys in a 10g with my betta, Raymond: 3 Corydoras pygmaeus and 1 Corydoras habrosus. They are cute and active and the betta doesn't seem to pay any attention to them at all.

You can have 2 otos in the tank with a Betta with no problem. I did with no problem with mine. Cories need more room as they are very active fish and need at least 12 to 15 gallons to be really happy. I have mine in the 25 gallon and they are excstatic. They love the tank and get along well with the bettas when they have one with them and the betta loves them but they like to be in groups of 3 or more. Right now I only have 2 and they are doing well but they do not do well as a single really as they get a little nervous.
