Really Upsetting Petstore

I stopped at the petstore on the way home and while I was there noticed that out of the approximate 80 bettas they had, about 30 of them were dead. I was super upset and wanted to rescue one of the ones still alive, but was unsure if I should or not.

The bettas are all kept in individual containers, so I am assuming there is not some betta disease running rampant through the store. Am I correct?

If the pet store is just being negligent I will go back tomorrow and buy one, but if you guys think the bettas are all sick I do not want to make a huge mistake.

Any advice?

I would have asked about them.

I've been in stores, pointed out sick ones or dead ones.

That is so sad..they probebly died from starvation and lack of proper care.. I really doubt they ( Pet Store Personel) take the time to feed and water change each Betta in those death cups.. I have rescued many Bettas from Pet Stores and they have all turned out fine .. once they recovered . I would say yes to rescuing one poor guy and give him a chance to live a happy life.

Me too. Obviously they aren't cleaning their cups as much as they should.

I would also say rescue one!! if you have a qt or another tank that is, just in case there is a disease, you wouldn't want to risk infecting your other finned friends

I really hate the chain stores that do that. Most of the smaller shops in the area dont carry bettas for that reason. Which i respect on so many levels.

I once went through all the cups pulling the ones that were dead. Then I put them in the middle of the room on the large tank for all to see. I can't believe they allow this to happen, and if it does, no one seems to take care.
