Regarding Feeding Peas

There are some very knowlegeable Betta keepers here it is apparent..Please tell me what your opinions are regarding feeding a Pea for relief of constipation.. I apologize if this is an old subject, but I am new here and would like to hear what you think on this subject.

No problem Phinny

I feed my betta 3 or 4 bits of frozen thawed shelled pea once a week as a treat, not in place of a meal to help prevent constipation.

If she were constipated, I'd probably give her that as a meal for a few days. Fasting could help too.

Most of the betta keepers in here feed peas as a proprolactic against constipation....kinda like betta metamucil...lol

I feed all of my boys 1/4 of a pea each day.......They get that at lunch...Bloodworms in the AM and pellets at night....Occassionally they get brine shrimp....

I feed my Betta freeze dried Daphnia once a week (as an additional feeding). Daphnia will relieve constipation as well as peas, plus it contains protein. And for me, it is much easier to sprinkle some Daphnia in the tank, than it is to get out a pea, thaw it and cut it up.

I do the occasional pea, but not regularly. It does make me feel good knowing that I have a solution though if Billy Voltaire gets constipated.

Thank You for your answers.. I have heard conflicting reports about Peas.. I do ocassisonally feed a pea..Bettas seem to like them alot, and I have heard Daphnia is good for constipation as well ( although I have a hard time finding it at LFS)
I am wondering if Bettas ,in thier natural habitat, injest any vegtable matter such as aquatic plants or algae? Does anyone out there know this?

I haven't looked myself, but I remember someone saying it can be found with the reptile supplies.

Although Betta's are classed as meat eaters, Primarly insects and insect larva, like most carnivors they will eat vegitable matter occasionally. Usually small bits here and there. Frankly, again going with carnivors in general, I would say they do so as a laxitive. High protein diets do tend to bind one up occasionally.
