So I got rid of the “killer” castle and substituted a clear glass mug. Popsicle does use it; but isn’t thrilled with the setup right now. I will be getting him more plants and a different/better hiding spot soon. Here’s a crappy pic of him sulking; and one taken right after he swam out -seems like he’s saying “look how pretty I am when I am NOT in that stupid mug”!

What happened with the Castle? I am new so I don't know what happened origionally.. I am interested as I had once put a castle in one of my tanks...got it from an aquarium shop, put it in, by the time I returned home from work my Betta was almost dead! It must have leached out some kind of toxin into the water.. I threw it out..water change..water change..eventually Sparkle recovered and is now fine..almost lost my Little Buddie.

I had a small castle from petco...it had caves/tunnels that seemed perfect for a betta. I thought the windows were way too small to worry about; but Popsicle had other ideas. He almost got stuck in one of the windows, so I immediately took the thing out. I gave the castle to Kelly - we decided we could silicone the windows closed. After further examination, I found that the tunnels and windows were connected; and the towers were hollow, which seemed to make it more of a death-trap. One close call was enough for me! Last I knew, Kelly was trying to make the "killer" castle betta proof for one of her boys....not sure how that turned out - Kelly? Did you remodel successfully?

The castle is a work in progress! I have stuffed the towers full of filter floss and plugged them both with silicone. I have one window sealed shut and am working on the other one. I should finish it tonight. And then (after it cures) I'm gonna soak it in a bucket of water to see what happens....I will definitely keep you posted!
