Male Betta Question

Hello! I have a quick question on a Male Crowntail Betta. I am fairly new to having Bettas but my boys saw it and they loved the colors and such, so did I. I have had him for about a month or so now and I am going to be putting him in a bigger tank. My question is can they have other fish in the tank with them. I know they cant go in with another male betta but can they go in with others like tetras or something similar? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rikki

Generally it's better not to have fish that swim at the same level as they do because they are very territorial. Tetras and fish of that type tend to pick at their flowey(is that a word LOL) fins. They do well with Corys or Otos on the bottom of their tank.
What size tank are you thinking of putting him in? Have you posted pics yet? We adore fish pictures

Betta should be kept with bottom feeders like otos or cories. They do best in a 5g tank alone tho. The odd betta gets along in a community..but they tend to have more health issues. They cannot go with any of the fish you already have...just in case you don't know that.

I am moving him toa 10 gallon. He is in a small 3 gallon now and I feel horrible because of how small it is. This pic is not the greatest so when I move him I will post better ones.

Oh no, I have 2 Marbled Gar in my other tank so I wouldnt put him in there. Right now he is the only fish that I will have for that 10 gallon tank.

Thanks for the pic He would love a couple of Corys or two or three Otos. Just give them plenty of places to hide/sleep.

10g with 3 otos would be great. Otos school together sometimes and look so cute.

Everyones answered your question.

He's a pretty little guy. He'll love a 10g. Mine swims all over the tank. It's fun to watch.

Are you talking about Cory Cats? Does anyone have any pics of the Otos? I know this sounds stupid but I cant get them in my head on what they are.

Thank You. Now I remember what they are. Well I really didnt want another catfish so maybe he will stay in there on his own for now. I wanted something with a little bit of color to go in there with him. Thanks for all the help and suggestions.

Ok I have yet another question. What kind of filter does everyone use with their Bettas?

I use a 5-15 aqua tech from walmart. I shoved a peice of fake plant in the out take to decrease the current.

An HOB filter with an adjustable flow would be great. As far as some colorful tankmates go, there are some pretty colorful cories but you'd need a bigger tank to house a small shoal of them with a male Betta.
