ok so my betta fish looks overfed, it is a tad lethargic but not so bad, but i fast him and it doesnt get much better. my neon tetras look a ittle overfed too. i think that's all. but this one guy on yahoo answers said i might have dropsy. what are the symptoms for dropsy? he's just lethargic and hanging out on the top but still greets u at the front of the tank if you are RIGHT there. he would notice u from 5 feed away b4. we just got some new plants if that has anything to do with it. he has a large stomache...his color is a little duller. ya that's pretty much it. its only 5 neon tetras and a betta in a 10 galln tank.

please help. my betta is hanging sideways and stuff. he is very lethargic. im afraid he wont make it tomarro EVERYONE PRAY FOR HIM. i fasted him for two days and it only made it worse. i already fed him today so i dont think i shud feed him a pea too but he didnt get any of the food cuz he was so lethargic he just sniffed it and went lethargic again. plz everyone pray for him to live thru this and at least thru the night so i can treat him and he will get better. plz i really need yur help. im gonna give him a pea tomarro but im afraid he wont last thru the night PLEASE HELP AND PRAY.

here's a pic:

http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/m...1/sickbeta.jpg

he looks like he's overfed but the bump takes a long time to go downthough it eventually does. im gonna feed him a pea. apparently when they have dropsey they move around as normal but have a bump-not my betta. mine is super lethargic, he acts like he's in a frickin fishbowl! the neon tetras arent bugging him but they are constipated too. i think it was they were eating stale flakes. i am now feeding them all natural food NO FLAKES. vegies, bloodworms (freeze dried-DO THEY GET STALE?), etc. but plz help. wat shud i do? water change? pea? i dont want him to die! i dont think i can isolate him for a while cuz i have to get a heater for my isolation tank and i am stuggling to get ready for school and once school starts i will have to wait till the saturday of next week unless it is extremely crusial. the only problem with the neons is they sometimes poke around with their nose down right after feeding. i think that is cuz they have lots of food and the food floats. i feed a pea today then fast tomarro and see wat happens. plzz help!!!

my fish have fin rot-BAD. i really need help. what do i do for finrot? what do i need to get? salts? i think he might be overfed as well too. my neon tetras have it bad im gonna go out to petco today to get whatever's needed. that or this other petstore. plz plz plz help. i have neon tetras and betta in a 10 gallon planted tank. waterchange? wat

plz help.

i have a betta and neon tetras that have fin rot and my betta might have dropsey but i think he's just overfed. first of all, which is better for fin rot. i know salt can help a tad with dropsey too. plz click immediately! also, the fin rot is BAD

does he have a heater in his tank?

Are the neon tetras picking on him?

if you look at him from the top does all of his scales poke outward like a pine cone?

What do you feed him?

Is he regular? does he leave you 'little presents'?

It sounds like he's constipated to me but try answering those questions and i might know for sure. I know its alot, but its hard when you can see the fish yourself. Can you post a pic?

Hi fishluver, I'm sorry your fish aren't feeling well.
Are his scales sticking out like a pinecone? If not, he's probably bloated and stressed from being in a tank with nippy little neons.
I'd separate them.

For bloat and constipation, you can feed them thawed frozen and shelled bits of pea. No bigger than their eye. Daphinia works well too.

We'll be thinking of your betta.

If you can get your hands on freeze-dried daphnia, I would suggest feeding him those instead of the pea. They are naturally laxative (like the pea), but have more protein. They also have the added benefit of being really tasty to bettas.

I'm sorry your betta isn't feeling well, I pray he made it over night.

How's he doing? It might help if you moved him out of the tank with the neons so he won't be stressed.

Is the tank cycled? What are the readings?
Let's see if we can't help this little guy.

You could feed them Daphnia (I think that's how you spell it), that is also a laxitive plus it contains protien.

I'd keep a really close eye on those tetras, they are notoriously bad betta tank mates.

Hard to tell if it's dropsy from the photo... Have any from closer?

Hope they all feel better soon.

I can't help you with the fin rot treatment sorry but there'll be betta mommies on here soon to help you out just hold on tight.

I do know that there is a list of betta meds for fin rot stickied at the top of the betta forum.

Good luck and I hope that your babbies get better soon.

You need to move the betta to another filtered and heated tank away from the neons.

You can get triple sulphur and rid fungus for treating the fin rot.

he's overfed and might have dropsey TOO

well his stomach is bloted, and his scales are pine-cony around his stomach but i think that is jut because he is bloated so much.

fishluver101, this is the third thread you've started about your betta.

You've never answered if your tank is cycled or what your water parameters are.
Have you taken any of the advice given by the other members?

Can you post a pic? Is he still bloated? Are you sure it's fin rot and not the other fish picking on him?
Neons are fin nippers.
You really need to separate them, the stress on him will not help.

Here's a link to betta meds.

I'm not sure what the scales looking pine coney mean but it probably wouldn't hurt him not to be fed for 24 hours see if helps relieve the bloat and then try feeding a piece of pea.

I'm sure other betta mommy's will be around soon to help you further.

If they're truly pineconed, the poor little guy has drospy.

Usually a symptom rather than a disease it'self. It can be brought on from poor water conditions.
Drospy can be fatal.

I agree with anna and other members who gave you advice about feeding him bits of thawed frozen shelled pea or daphnia.
Separate him so he doesn't get hurt anymore and he won't have access to the neons food.

Follow the link I gave you to the betta meds.

that's the best pic i got. he only has pineconing scales around his stomache and my betta book says that happens when their REALLY bloated. but im not sure he might have dropsey. i saw that meds thing. but idk....which one cuz he might have two illnesses and if he does have the second (dropsey) that's worse and needs more action but im not sure if he does...dear lord everyone pray for my baby!

the tank is cycled, has a filter i mean, he has 7.2/7.1 PH that's the only tester i have.

It's hard to tell from the pic, but peas or daphnia won't hurt him.

Have you separated him from the neons?

We will pray your betta gets better, but you must help him by taking the advice given.

When all is said and done, it is your fish and your choice as to what you're going to do.

Edit: Without a test kit for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates, you cannot tell if your tank is cycled or not.
Just having a filter does not make a tank cycled.
Here's an explanation of the process:
