I think Bettas are smarter than GoldFish!

As many of you saw in my redorated betta tanks, i have some little hamster tubing in my betta tanks. all my bettas LOVE these tubes and know how to go in and out with ease. several of them "sleep" in them or rest in there when lights out.

Well my gold fish love to go inside the little collusium that is in their tank, (well the smaller ones who fit in there anyway). so i thought they might like the hamster tubes too!

i had a couple of extras, so i put them in with the goldfish.

the first few days nothing

then some of the goldfish found their way in there, foraging for food flakes....
they get in there and then try to swim UP, instead of OUT. you see this little panicked look on their face when they can't get out and they flutter back and forth and back and forth until they FINALLY figure out how to get out.

they definately don't like them as they cant figure out how to get in and out, so i'm gonna take the out and not strain their little brains any more.

this was never an issue with the bettas as they figured them out in seconds.

there you have it....bettas are smarter than goldfish!

LOL... perhaps you're right, but the thing to remember as well is that I think little obstacle courses are all part and parcel of a betta's natural habitat, whereas goldfish don't usually have to navigate shallow, heavily overgrown pools. Bettas are natural escape artists!!

I think Bettas are the smartest fish, but I'm probably a bit biased.

No question Bettas are the smartest fish......How do you think my boys got so BIG! lol...They are smart enough to manipulate me for food.....

Try and take some pics of the Goldies in their tubes......I love the Goldiies!

Goldfish are far from smart. When we use to feed the piranha goldfish, they'd get attacked forget what was going on..swim right back into danger. Now any feeder cichlids (don't do that anymore) we gave them out smarted the piranha...every time. The cichlids knew something was up immediately.
Betta are cats with fins I tell ya, so they have to be smart anyway.

Poor little confused goldies! I definetly think that bettas have the brains, but if we are gonna rank them by cuteness, I think they tie

Aww... your poor goldies confused little faces. I guess hamster tubes are a bit beyond them then

I definitely agree with you there; bettas are the smartest fish I've ever seen. I love all my goldies, but to be honest they just aren't very smart. Their cuteness more than makes up for it though!

It sounds like part of a mean joke, "What do boys and goldfish have in common..."

They are simple yet beautiful and are easy to please (not to mention very hungry and kind of messy)?

Now if only we had to throw them some flakes and vacuum up after them occasionally women would be perfect!

Hey, at least you didn't compare our eating habits to those of goldfish!

hmm... we may have wandered a bit off topic here
