Big, healthy, happy betta boys!

I am so excited! Mr David Bowie has been with me for almost 3 months, and he has gotten about twice as big as he was when I rescued him as a cup kid. His colors are deeper and more vibrant now than I have ever seen. Pretty sure it's the new diet I have him on -- tropical fish flakes in the morning (alternating two different types: one with high protein and the other with slightly more veggie matter), blood worms in the evening (twice a week they're soaked in garlic water), brine shrimp once a week and a piece of pea on the weekend. Sometimes it's hard to keep up with such a detailed feeding schedule, but boy am I ever seeing a rewarding result.
His body is over 2" long now and his finnage is at least that much as well. And the last couple of days, I have noticed some healthy raw pinkish-white tips on the ends of his fins -- fresh growth. He's going to get even longer, more spectacular fins -- red tips! I am so excited, he is for sure the biggest boy I have ever owned, and I am just super happy to see all my new betta rescues with healthy regrowth on their beautiful tails!! Esteban is starting to show new growth as well, and his amazing tail is already quite dazzling!

Yea I just had to brag on my big boys!!

Sounds like a good regimine. I think you are so lucky your boys are being taught to accept different foods. Mine are picky little critters and won't touch but about 3 different types of foods although heavens to betsy they have had them offered and nearly bankrupted me.

Only Consuela will eat pieces of garlic, the boys sometimes have to be made to go without a meal before they will eat anything that smells like garlic. -_- Send them to bed with no dinner and they'll be happy for whatever breakfast they can get!!

Esteban looks amazing, and love his name

I'll bet you still get "The LOOK" when you feed them garlic, even if they are hungry!! The first time I fed Leonard a pellet, you would have thought I'd threatened to send him back to DeathCo....such a nasty look!

To change the subject a little,I fed my guy some peas for the first time today. He seemed to really love them. (Obviously when I say some Peas, I mean a couple of small pieces of a single pea,)

It's so rewarding to see how they respond to a loving home with good care, isn't it?

David Bowie acted like he was never going to so much as look at me again the first time I fed him a piece of minced garlic. He was so hungry, so he just shoved the first thing I dropped into his mouth... then he stopped, deliberately spit the garlic back at the glass toward me, gave me a filthy look and swam away. Little brat!!

I never thought to get photos of Bowie until I'd already had him in his 6.6 gallon for about a month, so the before & after photos of him are not as drastic as many you see here (I do have day-of-rescue pics of Esteban & Consuela though). This evening I will try and take some more pics when the lighting is good, hopefully the pink regrowth will show up, I am super happy about it.
