New betta

Okay, rearranged decorations, cleaned tank, tested water at LFS and all is good. Brand new betta today. Peachy cream base color, blue hues at base of all fins, black eyes, black nose, and varied small black spot along his body. His fins are a transluscent, kinda ghostly dark pink, almost red. I VOW to keep this betta alive for more than 6 days. And by the way, the clerk at my LFS said that they can live for up to 11 years at the max, I thought it was five?

Their average life span is 2-4 years. In laboratory conditions, they have been known to live up to 11 years, but this is not a typical life span you should expect of your pet. I have personally known people to keep pet bettas that made it 5 or 6. I hope I get to keep mine that long!!

Congrats on your new betta! The way you describe him, he must be beautiful! Hope you're pictures come up soon!

They actually live more than 2 years. 11 years might be impossible. It's actually sad because they're so beautiful, they only live for a while.

oh yeah, Mango is now constructing his bubble nest this morning, and when I used to have Dusty, his nest building skills were discouraged when water changes were made. The nest would be out of place when the water level would go down and up. is there any way I can prevent that? He's building his at the side of the tank

Congrats on your new Betta boy! I believe they have lived as long as 10 years in careful laboratory conditions, but 3-5 is about the typical life span.

Congrats on Mr. Mango!!! He sounds stunning and really unique. If he looks the way you discribed him, I don't think I have ever seen a betta like that before. I am sure he is a very handsom boy! Most of my boys just re-build the bubble nest after each water change. I don't know if there is any way to prevent messing it up other than making sure that you don't put the siphon straight throught the nest.
