What fish can i keep with male betta?

I was wondering what fish I can put in a 10 gallon tank it has a filter and heater

I know some fish that many people list such as:

Neon Tetra(I dont like these fish they get diseases easily)
Corydora (I like them i might get a couple for my community tank im trying to make)
African Dwarf Frogs (they look interesting but it seems hard to feed and it might nip bettas fins)

What other fishes are there that I can keep with my male betta other than neon tetras and corydora. I want to make the nicest looking community tank possible.

Thanks! , Mighty565

Scratch the neons off the list....They do NOT work with Bettas....My boys all live alone..Well actually they have an apple snail in with them....

Yes you can have Cories...I haven't had any but I know many Betta fanciers on the list have them in with their Betts...I know a couple of people who tried the frogs and it didn't go well....

Betta fish really do best when kept alone...Do you plan on getting a boy or a girl?

A boy I was mostly planning on getting one male betta and 3-4 corydora but i dont know what species also i would like to have another main swimming fish. The betta would be the centerpeice fish. the corydoras will be the bottom. But I need some mid lelvel swimmers like some type of tetras...by the way thanks for helping me out

There really aren't any mid swimmers that should be put with a male betta. Betta's are, for the most part, solitary fish and like to have their territory all to themselves. The problems usually come in one of two ways, either the betta sees the other fish as a threat and can cause harm to it, or the betta sees the other fish as totally harmless and lets his fins get ripped to shreads. The main suggestions that I have heard in the past are snails, corys and ottos.

How big of a tank are you planning on putting them in?

Sorry, sometimes when I am working and Fishloring (I so shouldn't be doing that...) I get distracted while reading a post.

I had a snail & small pleco in with my betta - but they have since moved into my 55 gal. Cories should work. Nothing mid/top tank though, that may cause some problems.

what kind of problems ? fin nipping.

Yea I will most likely be getting just corydoras and a betta but alot of people told me some tetras will work and also on youtube i saw some videos of bettas that live with some tetras...

will male bettas be okay with black neon tetras?

Tetras and Bettas do not mix. Not even black neons.

Just 'cause it's on youtube doesn't mean it'll work! haha there's SUCH bad stuff on there sometimes...

The reason is that there will be a lot of fin nipping. What I've seen happen is that everything goes swimmingly (pun intended ) for a while and then one day you'll wake up and turn on the light and the betta will have had his tail ripped to shreds. Not fun. So maybe those people just haven't woken up to that one sad day yet... I've seen it happen several times now with different members though. I wouldn't risk it.

It's just better that they be on their own or with bottom feeders. Apple snails, cories, or Otos (but otos need super established tanks before you put them in because they're fragile.) Personally, I think cories are the best little fish. (Other than bettas, of course!) Get some of them and your betta and you'll be set! They do this cute dog pile thing where they all pile on top of each other. Very cute, if you ask me!

Welcome to Fishlore, by the way!

Julii cories are pretty cute. Panda cories work well too, although some times they're harder to keep alive... Maybe Schwartzi cories if you can find them.

Albino cories tend to be more active, if you like the way they look.

Most of those species will get around 2 inches each (someone correct me if I'm wrong! It's late!) so I'd get 3 or 4 of them and then the betta. That'll max out your tank as far as stocking goes.

Dwarf corys would be cool because of their small size you could have about 6 - but slightly rare. Pygmy corys sometimes school in the mid water - so if you can find them go for it! Pygmys are very small and you could have about 6 as well.

I think most of the common cories get to be about 3" (Emralds, Albino, Peppered).

Panda Cories and Leopard(Julli) cories only get to be 2".
