Another question for all you betta moms and dads. What live plants are good for their tank? I have a 5 gallon hex with a 10 watt fluorescent bulb for lighting. I'm not sure if I want floating or planted, which ever is best I guess...maybe both. I also have some 13 watt compact fluorescent bulbs that I got for the lamps around the house, if those can be used and will be helpful. My only question with those are would they be ok since there is no barrier between the light and the tank water? Thanks for all your help.

Live plants are always beneficial. Fish love to swim through them, sleep in them, spawn in them and they're good for water quality as well.

Java fern is the easiest and most hardy to start with. You can tie a bunch unto decorations or rock and they'll live and grow just fine.

Hygro, water sprite, wisteria, anubias and cryptocorynes are fairly low light and hardy plants!

I have an 11 watt compact flourescent in my 5 gallon Minibow, and have had no problems with it.

Java fern, Java moss, anubias, and water wysteria are my favorites for betta tanks.

Our favorite for the Bettas is the water sprite. They love sleeping in it and it grows pretty easy.

Thanks everyone. We ended up getting some Hornwort for him, he loves swimming through it. I went to petsmart and they didn't have a big selection.
