Getting A Betta :)
I've decided on getting a betta or two, because after passing them in Petsmart so many times, its just impossible to resist :P
But, I'm going to do it right this time, and confirm all the supplies needed with fellow fishlorians xD
Okay, so here is what I'm thinking about using/getting:
Kits/Tanks:
http://petco.com/product/12351/All-G...arium-Kit.aspx
http://petco.com/product/100585/Aqua...eluxe-Kit.aspx
http://petco.com/product/8280/PETCO-...-Aquarium.aspx
http://www.petco.com/product/10313/A...rter-Kits.aspx
I like the last one best, I think. But I'll see what you guys think
Food:
I already have Topfin Fd Bloodworms, and TetraColor flakes. Plus, if I get the last tank, it comes with food. Should I get separate betta food? Or just use the tropical flakes?
Water Conditioner:
API Tap Water Conditioner
API Stress Coat
I have both of those. Do I need anything else?
Mmm...I think thats it for now. Does this sound like a plan? xD

I had my betta in a 5g hex, imo, they're hard to clean without stressing the betta and there's not much swin surface for them.
Some people had problems with their males flaring at their reflections in them.
Several members love this one and it's the same price as the hex.

I have the 2 1/2 gallon bow front and also 4 of the 5 gallon hex tanks....I agree with Lucy and if I had it to do over again I'd have gone with the 6 gallon bookshelf tanks for the same price....I feel a Betta fish does best when kept in at least 5 gallons...
Good luck with you new Finbaby!

Sounds great! I'm probably either going to get the 6.6 gal, but I may only be able to get the 2.5 gallon. I'll have to see.
Does everything else sound okay? Water conditioner, food, etc?

I have the 2.5 mini bow that you liked and my store betta LEMON is VERY HAPPY in that. He makes bubble nests all day long!
For a single betta, we also have the eclipse 3.0, that's what royal blue is in and that's very nice too.
and we have two of the 6.6 bookshelf tanks. but we have them divided. if you're going to divide, you'll need more things, like a small filter for the other side.
right now its summer, but you'll need a small heater soon.
also, I saw FLAKES on your list for food.
Most of us feed our bettas Hikari gold pellets and bloodworms.
i do, 3-4 pellets in the morning, 3-5 bloodworms at nite.
if you want FAT bettas, talk to Karen....lol.

Here's a hint!
I like the look of the mini bow aquarium but I didn't want to pay the petco price. I went to Wal Mart and found a 5 gallon mini bow for $37 which is the same price as the 2.5 gallon minibow at petco.
More space, same price!
Also, I like the Hikari Bio Gold betta pellets as well as blood worms.
Congrats on getting your betta!

It's so fun! The only thing you'll probably want to do is change the incandescent light that comes with the mini bows for a compact fluorescent one. Those are at walmart too! Haha

Don't get 2 if you don't have two tanks. I wouldn't have them in the same tank for a month...not until you know if one is sick or not.
Have fun betta shopping.

Oh, I know I was planning on possibly buying two 2.5 gal tanks, or dividing a 10 gal, or maybe dividing the 6 gal. I'm not sure yet. But I can't find any dividers that go smaller than a 10 gal, so I'm not sure about the 6 gal :/

I'd divide a 10g but if you need a 5g...you can get them. They are like $12-14.

I'm pretty sure Rick (hockeyref88) divided his book shelf tanks, maybe pm him and ask.
Some where on the forum are directions on how to make your own dividers. I'm sure someone who knows will see this soon.

I was just reading a How-to Guide for Bettas and it said to stay away from the freeze-dried bloodworms, but the bloodworms food container says its great for bettas. Should I only feed them this occasionally?
And as for the dividers, if I got a 10 gal divider from petsmart, would I be able to trim it down to size?

Some freeze-dried bloodworms, if fed without soaking them can cause constipation. I have read on this forum that the Hikari freeze-dried are nice and soft and a good size for bettas. I have recently switched from soaking the freeze-dried ones (Omega One) to the Hikari frozen bloodworms.
Not sure about the divider, but if you do a search, there have been a few threads about making your own within the last few weeks.
