David Bowie's tank has the place of honour on my desk, since he insists on being as close to where I am as possible. I frequently look over from my computer to see what he's up to and say "hello"... he's usually just trying to get my attention so that he can tell me that it's time for me to give him a snack.
A moment ago I looked over and saw no motion in the tank... odd, because he is extremely active most of the time. I peered closer into the tank... no David Bowie. Perplexed, and starting to get a little panicked, I finally noticed a little piece of fin fluttering in the current waaaay at the top of the tank, above the pillar decoration.
I opened the lid of the tank and was completely shocked at what I saw.
Mr Bowie, daredevil that he is, was happily laying on his side, out of the water on top of the pillars, with his head resting in the opening of the water filter, letting the water run over his face and body. He didn't flop around or seem to be frightened or trying to escape in any way... in fact he didn't move at all until I freaked and tipped him over back into the water.
Does anyone else's betta like to explore "out" of water? I've heard that in the wild they can burrow to live in very, very little water in the dry months when needed, but Bowie actually seemed to have intentionally done this for his own amusement.

Actually, he seemed to be very pleased with himself at the time... The horrible brat, nearly gave me a heart attack...
I've moved the decoration higher on the substrate so he can't fit his fat little body between it and the tank cover any more, as I'm afraid he might not be able to get down on his own... just curious if anyone's had a similar experience. ??
