Peas

How do you prepare the peas to feed them to the bettas? Bettas are new for us and I want to do it right.

Use frozen thawed peas. Some people mirowave them, I just let it thaw.
Cut it into tiny peices, about the size of your bettas eye.
I give mine 3 bits of pea as a treat once a week.

Thanks Lucy, I will get some peas when I run out to get the garlic and vita chem for him. I don't know what I would do if it were not for this site, you guys are all great and very helpful!

I just thaw them in hot water. You also have to squeeze the "pea meat" (for lack of a better word) out of the pea skin. You just give them the soft inner stuff, not the outer skins.

I'll thaw some in the fridge, peel them and go around the tanks tearing off a few tiny pieces for each betta then the rest goes to the endlers tank.

Just make sure that unless you are treating them for constipation like they are already constipated and you know it, that you do not use the peas for a meal. They need their food. The peas are given as a treat and always at least 2 or 3 hours from a meal so they have a lot of time to digest their dinner before the peas start to do their work. It is fun to give them something they find out they like and don't expect to get. They get really excited when they know it is coming when you start giving it to them. You will see. I have only had one betta that did not like his peas. The rest of them LOVE them more than everything else.

Thanks Chickadee, I will be sure and remember that. I gave him the pea around our lunch time and then feed him his dinner after we had dinner. From what Lucy had said I was planning on once a week also.

On more question, when you are using garlic, how often do you soak their food in it, just once a week also, or do they need that more often?

When they are basically healthy one time a week is probably sufficient. When they are being treated for any type of illness or conditions then I go up to 3 or 4 times a week or if it is really serious then daily.
