Air stones and bubble nests

Hello everyone! as many of you know I am cycling (its taking forever) a 5 gal hex for a cup boy i hope to rescue.

I have heard that bettas cant make bubble nests if they have an air stone in their tank... is it true? should I still get me an air stone (w/pump) or not?

Thanks!

If there is too much surface agitation, it is hard for bettas to get their nests to stay together. Some may just not try if the water is moving too much. But you don't need an airstone since there's a filter. The only time I use an airstone is in a divided tank where there isn't a filter on one side.

If you want to encourage bubble nesting, you can tape something like a styrofoam bowl cut in half in the corner. It gives a 'shielded' area of still water for bubble nesting.

I had just recently posted about my divided tank Betta's and there first ever Bubble Nests, they did it after I removed there air stones (temporarily) and I was so excited But I'm replacing the air stones as they are in divided tanks and it helps circulate the water,I'm happy to know that they can and did but more concerned about their water quality.
Hope this helps

I have a 20 gal divided shell and got the smallest air pump with those lil ball like stones and my boys can still make their nests...one end of the tank I have the wand that I put in the middle of the divider and they each get half of the wand on their sides...seems to be just enough to circulate but not to much to destroy their precious bubbles..how are your boys doing btw?

My house is a giant bubble bath....I do not have air stones in any of the boys tanks....They have bio wheel filters and whisper filters which does not cause a lot of movement in the tanks...

I'd have to say air stones would break up a bubble nest...They may be building them but you won't see them because they will become seperated by the air stone....
