Tail type?

I'm wondering what Barney would be considered....He is not the typical crown type with the single rays..It's like the rays are grouped into 3....Thick seperations...Does that make sense?

Not the best photo because he is just now starting to come out but I think you can see what I mean.

Some more photos he is finally giving in lol....I can already see he is going to be a firey red head!

This photo looks like he is thinking "Is this the darn pose you want"?

Thank you Shell.....I think he is kind of special.......

That's what I was thinking Allie....I called it a double tail....I knew it was not the normal crowntail.....He's very full as far as finage goes....Quite beautiful actually...He stood out in the crowd if you know what I mean lol

He's one handsome little guy! I think Rose can ID his tail type the best, but he does look like an interesting crown tail.

I count at least 4 rays together so I would say a quad ray Delta Crowntail. I thought maybe his spread would be more halfmoon but now I have seen these pics I think he is more Delta spread but a QUAD ray...the first I have ever seen but he is at least that. There are at LEAST 4 rays and could be 5 in some of the ray groupings. He is truly unique and I hope will have a place in the 2010 calendar for his uniqueness and the fact that he is probably owned by the youngest betta mommy we have.

Wow he's very cool looking...looks like a double-double ray where the rays didn't split apart. Guess that makes a quad ray. Never seen that before.

What a unique and stunning fish! His finnage is absolutely gorgeous and his colour is fantastic... so vibrant! As far as type... well CT obviously, but I am not good at identifying. :/ Amazing photos though!!

There is a chance that he could develop into a Double tail yet if that center split splits further and divides the fin into two more distinct sections. He is young yet and a lot of times the Double tails do not actually start the real show of their split until they reach nearly a 9 month mark so you never know. But for sure he has at the least 4 rays and I know there are some with 5 or 6 together that would make him the most unique rayed Crownie I have ever seen. You do have the knack for finding the really special little guys, Karen and to have Barney be one for Annie, it is wonderful. He is going to be a feisty little boy too and that is wonderful. I can tell by his antics during the photo session. I love it!!!

Thank you all for the comments on Annies boy....She is really enjoying him for sure.....

Rose, you are right about the 4 crowns.....I couldn't figure this one out.....I had never seen a tail like this.....Leave it up to me to find the rare unique ones lol...It took us over and hour of going back and forth and I kept coming back to this guy...Annie liked him because he was red and Granny liked him because his tail was so full....I can't wait to see this guy flare! He was puffing at me and the camera but this is no where near a flare for this guy...

I'll get some better pictures of a side profile when I can and yes, of course he'll be in the 2010 calendar..He's a sight to see in person let me tell you!

You can see in this pic that he has at least 4 splits to each crown mabe even 5!

I know! I cannot decide whether he is a Quad or a Quintuple Ray and I think I even see a 6 in there too. But the bigger question is the Super Delta or Halfmoon spread. One time I think he has a SuperDelta and the next time I could swear he is a full Halfmoon spread Crownie. But I guess if he can spread for a full Halfmoon even one time he qualifies. So lets say a Quadruple Ray Halfmoon Spread Crowntail with possible Doubletail tendencies. How is that for a mouthful? He could still develop that center split into a double tail before it is over as it looks deeper than the rest. So we will just note that it is a Tendency for now.

I don't think he's a crown at all- rather, a Combtail, which is where the Crowntails came from. Crowntails are extreme combs- much further reduced webbing then Combtails have.

And I'd say Super delta from all the reading and sponge-like knowledge absorbtion I had going on from hanging on a betta breeder forum. He is gorgeous too... I kind of miss having a feisty red of my own LOL

Awesome find

Nope. This one is a Crownie and there is not any doubt about it.
