Cory Cat and Betta?

i've been thinking about putting a little cory cat in with Royal Blue and with Lemon at the store.

What do you think about this?

It all depends on the betta. My one betta, HATES everything & when I put a pleco in his tank with him, all he did was attack it. I then moved the pleco into my other betta tank, and now they're best friends. The betta & pleco play together all of the time. You won't really know until you try - btu make sure you have a back-up plan in case the betta doesn't like the cory.

I have 3 cory cats in with Raymond -- 1 Sterbai's and 2 pygmies. Raymond ignores them. Pepper (my son and his girlfriend's betta) is a loner. We've been discussing putting a couple of otos in with him but haven't tried it so far. Every betta is different. So I'd try it -- cautiously -- and like Amanda said, have a back up plan, just in case.

do you feed them separate from the betta?

I try but Raymond, like most bettas from what I've read, is a big piggy! Every other day, I throw a shrimp pellet or algae wafer in right after lights out hoping that Raymond wouldn't see it. So far (knock wood), everybody seems content with this and nobody looks hungry. I highly recommend the pygmy cory cats if you can find them (they aren't plentiful in my area). If your tank is big enough or if you are prepared to do fairly frequent water changes, you could put 2 of the pygmies in (all cories need company to be happy). They are the cutest little guys and only get to be about 1.5" long. Here's a link so you can check them out:

If your feeling extremly lucky then do what i did - Rescue a poor little betta from a horrid pet shop And pray when you add him to a community tank like i did

I seriously dont recommend it But my betta has only ever flared up once! when a black molly was eating his pea!!

He is really doing well and his fins are ok now but always have a back up plan because my partner has one by itself in a stunning 7g tank with filter heater low bubbles live plants and it flares up looking at itself!!

So always go by the assumption that even if you read this fish is great with that etc the fish dont always play by the book, Take my betta for example hes in a tank with

Neon Tetras
Buttercup pleco
Ghost shrimps
coryfish
German blue ram
saffiron mollies
Blackfin mollies
Black ghost knifefish

and not once has ever attacked anything in the tank
But he has a lot of place to relax and hide should he get stressed and place's for the others to hide to so its quite peaceful which im over the moon about

But dont take my word on it. It CAN be done But LUCK is 90% factor and ive got an empty tank with some water and a UGF on standby should something happen Sickness/Fights etc

Hope this helped somewhat?

Cory's are generally fine with Betta's, but remember they're schooling fish, so they appreciate more than one. I have two Peppered Cory's in with Poe, and they're all good

Corys and Otos do extremely well with Bettas mainly because they inhabit different areas of the tank most of the time. As was stated above the temperament of the Betta will determine their compatability of course.
My Betta has an Oto in his 10g with him, when I feed them I drop the Otos food in one corner and hand feed Betta Boy in the other corner that way they both get to eat

Bettas usually will tolerate corys, but corys do like to have at least 2 or 3. The eat different food, but a lot of Bettas think it's great fun to steal the corys food.

we have some extra little corys in our community that i could move, but i'm just worried about the food issue. currently the community tanks get flake food. i don't really want to put flake food in the betta tank, Royal Blue gets three little hikari pellets in the AM and 4 bloodworms in the evening.

we do have some algae tabs, so that may be an option and today at the fish store i saw a feeding block in the cory tank and they seemed to be snacking on that. anyone ever use those before?

based on having to feed separately, corys are out for Lemon at the store, don't know if the staff could handle the separate feeding.

feeding at home is already quite a system, don't know if i want to add one more separate layer.

I like to use veggie slices to feed our plecos because Wilma, our female angel, likes to steal the wafers. I'd do the same with bettas and otos.
